Value of a 1968 vintage Peugeot tour bike-PLEASE HELP
Hello all! I am brand new to these forums and have been trying to sell my 1968 Peugeot tour bike to no avail..I would just like to know if maybe I've got it posted too high. Hopefully someone can help me out by telling me what its worth and what you think I can get for it now. Thanks so much. The bike can be seen at: https://newyork.craigslist.org/fct/bik/2821197003.html

OK, a few things that might be bothering people. First, what makes you believe its rare? It looks like a standard UO-8. Even with NYC prices, I'd set it at about a $200 bike, not $1200.
Second, yellow may not be the best color for that bike. But of course, thats just personal taste.
Third, how did you date it as a 1968? Not saying you are wrong, but the suicide brake levers make me suspicious.
Hope that helps.

A PX-10 may go for $700, but this isn't one. $300 would be a more reasonable asking price, but as Beach Comber said I'd put the value closer to $200.
Pictures are pretty bad. All three from about the same angle. No pictures of the driveside or components. Even if you put list it at a realistic price I'd strongly recommend taking some good pictures and hosting them to a site like flickr or photobucket so you can get nice high quality pictures in your ad, the tiny/grainy CL pictures aren't much help for buyers. Then you can get pictures that look like this: https://madison.craigslist.org/bik/2809274013.html

+487 Its not a touring bike, its not rare, Peugeot made millions of them. Its entry level. Around here, $125 if it is pristine and ready to ride. But it is not pristine. $700 is way off the mark and the $1200 remark comes from where????.
+1 Take the marketing tips above as well.

I have to agree this Peuget was close to the bottom of the line when new. Also it is not original parts wise and in only OK condition. This is a bike that would be $100 hard sell in the tough market where I live in Denver and likely a $200 tops on a good day in a strong market like NY.

More like 1972 or slightly later. The Yellow didn't come in, or those decals, until around then. The "rare" early Peugeots look like this:
You can probably spot many differences.
Yours is a later UO... I could likely pin the date to within a year or two, but I would need to see the neadtube badge. I'd guess 74 or 75.

I just read your ad. I buy bikes on CL around here all the time.
I would not call you about that ad either. I see a lot of similar
stuff locally.
The Google Translation for it is "I don't know what this is,
but it seems old and kinda cool to me, so it must be worth
a buncha money. Call me about it, and I'll waste a lot of
your time and mine trying to sell you on the idea it's worth
what I'm asking."
Thus, your responses are gonna be kinda limited, because
most of the over 330 bucks for an old bike guys are not
even gonna call you.....waste of time. Sorry, but the truth
shall set you free.

BTW, I wouldn't feel too bad about this. Peugeots are consistently misidentified, although for some reason folks never identify a PX as a UO. And many people think their bike is somehow a top of the line model. So I wouldn't worry about the missed id too much.
However, here it is a 150$ bike cleaned up, at best. What 3alarmer said is true, the folks who know and will drop that kind of money will take one look at your ad and pass on by. Too many mistakes in your text, from dating to value. The folks who don't know won't want to drop that kind of cash.

Even from the bad pictures, it is clear that the bicycle is not a high-end Peugeot. I recently bought a Peugeot UO8, likely same model and similar vintage as the one you are asking about, with the original components, for about $100.

Yep its a late seventies model...i can see the :tube special allege peugeot" sticker on top part of the seat tube...which marks it as a bike made with lighter tubing characteristic of the bike boom models.

Thanks so much to everyone who replied to my post..I got the initial price quote from a guy who claimed to fix up vintage and classic bikes and either mis-identified mine or was just trying to seem like he knew his stuff to show off, as I am a woman.. I kinda figured it was too good to be true. Looks like I'm gonna be taking the price down quite considerably as well as taking a few new pics! Thanks again everyone! You were all a great help!! I appreciate the honesty!

Also it may help to know in major urbean markets 50% or better of the likely buyers are going to be walk ups. Meaning they walked or took a bus and want to ride home today. So if you say a bike is ready to ride the buyer likely intends to ride it immediatly so it should be ready to ride.

particular forum any more for that very reason.
Any theories other than an exponential increase in the jerks
who want to make the big bike flip score?

This particular person came here on my recommendation. I saw her ad, and sent her some advice letting her know what she really had, and suggested if she wanted a 2nd opinion she should come here. I'm glad you all were able to confirm what I told her, and that she took it well.
