I bought this fixed gear off a guy on the side of the street. He wanted $40 and I gave him $30. It might be stolen, so I took the measures of trying to find the owner. Looked on craigslist stolen classifieds, posted up an ad and looked through the stolen bike website. So besides all of that, I want to know what the bike is and possibly what it is worth. If anyone could help me that would be great! Here are some detailed photos.

The serial # is SI985775

nice looking bike. I would bet it is Japanese, and judging by the cromped chainstays, stamped dropouts, and kickstand plate, it is a lowend frame. possibly something like a Kent from the late '70s

Whatever it was, it ain't anymore. All decals, markings and almost all of the original parts are long gone. Still, it wasn't a high end bike to begin with, it was something pretty close to bottom end. It was a good candidate to turn into a FG/SS.

I would guess it is a Giant, one sold by Schwinn. Giant made a lot of the Schwinn approved imported bikes in the 1970s and 1980s and had serial numbers on the rear drop out like the one you have.

Limited value on this one, wheels don't match, fork doesn't match frame, wrong stem, wrong handlebars, etc. But someone into FG/SS will like it, and certainly has a lot more value than what you paid for it. I would guess around $100.

+1 what ever it is, it is low end. It cannot be a Schwinn. The serial number is in the wrong place on the dropout (even for Panasonic-made Le Tours and such) and, more importantly, Schwinn did not use the letter I on their serial numbers

It's a dumpster clunker with stamped dropouts and a kickstand plate. Nothing left to know.

Basically right. But at $30, you did fine. But its not something special.

I understand it isn't anything special and I got a good deal, but the presentation will be terrible not knowing the brand or model if I ever try and sell it.

With no decals, headbadge or any other markings, you can really call it anything. The bottom end of the Asian bike products were pretty interchangeable between the brands. If you want something close, call it a Giant. But it really is not worth the money to round up a headbadge, decals and so on. Fork and bars are not original, rear wheel is not original, crankset is not original, stem is not original, brake lever is not original, front brake caliper is likely not original (although it might be one of those Giant made Schwinns I mentioned earlier), I don't think the front wheel is original either. The original rear brake, free wheel, derailleurs and shift levers are all gone.

Lets say you called it a 1981 Schwinn Traveler. If that is what it was, it isn't that bike anymore. All the original stuff is gone.

Calling it something, or identifying what it used to be would not affect its value around here. It is a vintage steel Asian FG. Its a good, solid around college, around the neighborhood, or whatever bike.
