pinch1967 11-13-10 05:49 PM

i will be picking them up on tuesday and posting pics then !

illwafer 11-14-10 01:12 PM

are they both touring bikes?

looks like the advanti could range anywhere from a pos to a nice bike.

pinch1967 11-14-10 01:32 PM

I do not know if there are touring bike i just got a quick look at them still there boxes . the Maruishi bike is a sea foam green and the box has a kangaroo logo on it. and the advanti is a beige color. they still have all the carboard attached to them so on tueday i will talke pics . both bikes are mint and complete except tires the Maruishi has the front tire which is a 700 . i do have a friend that i can buy two 700 wheelsets for cheap. i was wondering if its better to put the bikes together and sell them that way or leave them as is ??

I think from your description (sight unseen) that the "Advanti" is possibly actually a 1985 Norco Avanti SL.

I have one, also very tall - weirdly so.

It has a 25-inch frame and I like it but you will have to find a tall buyer for it.

Here's a picture of what yours will look like when finished:

Hi Pinch -
You are not giving us much to go on the Maruishi - a fuller description/model name/photo would be useful!

Doohickie 11-14-10 04:13 PM

I don't think they are worth much. If you send them to me I will ensure they are properly recycled. :innocent:

Can't really go wrong at $100.00, nice find!

Bike 2 ) Norco avanti

Michael Shaw 11-16-10 03:31 PM

Maybe they didn't sell because nobody over 7 feet tall came in looking for a bike !!

Those frames are HUGE.

The Norco looks like a BIG bike - just like the one in the Kijiji picture.

Where are they now ?

M

pinch1967 11-16-10 03:39 PM

i have both frame and iam going to sell them i just need to find out what the market value is on them they are both 25 Inch frames so if your 5,11 to 6,3 it should be a perfect fit ! even if you just need parts there all NOS .

Michael Shaw 11-16-10 03:56 PM

Well.... I don't know about the Maruishi HILITE but I can speak to the Norco Avanti.

I purchased a complete one, the Avanti SL model, with a 25-inch frame, in rideable condition but needing new tires a few weeks ago ... for either $12 or $10.

I would love to have the empty boxes because I may be shipping some bikes soon....

pinch1967 11-16-10 04:24 PM

to buy the Norco seat in nos condition i could make more than that LOL!!!

+1. Being NOS it's worth more than that obviously, but Suntour Seven derailleurs are not exactly high end (not to mention the stamped dropouts). I usually hate to say this, but it's probably worth more as a fixie conversion.

wrk101 11-16-10 05:58 PM

+1 Suntour seven is basically the bottom. NOS helps for sure, probably can find someone who would pay more than you paid for them. Around here, you would not get much more, maybe $150 for the blue one, $100 for the gold one (its much lower end). XL size makes selling much more difficult.

Forget about parting them out, as low end bikes used low end components, which have minimal value. Best value is when the bikes are complete.

25 inch frame will not fit someone 5-11.

What is the frame material on the aqua bike? Depending what it is made out of, I might raise that estimate. The Avanti is low end, close to the bottom. The aqua bike is quite a bit better.

auchencrow 11-16-10 06:21 PM

Well, obviously the Hilite is a Triathlon bike.
-And I'm sure it's a pretty decent frame based on the forged DOs- (I had a lesser Maruishi road bike with a nice Tange frame and stamped DO's).

I'm with Bill on wanting to know what the frame material is - I wonder if it's Tange 2/champion. That would be cool.

PS- I'm shorter than 5'11 and am very comfortable on 25" frames. Everyone is different.

rekmeyata 11-16-10 06:53 PM

If you can repackage everything and sell on E-bay with no reserve you could be surprised what those might go for because they are NOS and NIB. You won't get thousands, but I don't see why ranges of around $350 each could be seen, especially the HiLite.

I doubt if the HiLite is Tange 2 Champion, it's probably Tange 4 Champion.

Just one comment and one question:
Comment: I'm around 5'11" and I ride a 56cm frame confortably so a 25" frame would not even come close for me, I'd say those would be for someone who is 6'2" at a bare minimum unless you have Giraffe legs.
Question: where in the world are you located as that will have some bearing on pricing? I'm going to guess those are Austrailia or New Zealand bike brands and probably have a better market in their homelands. But with that said I think it would be neat to have the Kangaroo off the box hanging in the garage.

The Kangaroo was Maruishi's brand logo. They were a Japanese company building these bikes in Japan. On their better bikes in the mid-eighties, they appeared in gold inside circles on the tops of the fork crowns.

Question- Treebound: Do you spend any appreciable time riding the hoods on your 56?

pinch1967 11-16-10 07:50 PM

i have decided to sell the frames + all parts minus the wheels for the Maruishi -200.00 and the Avanti -100.00 now where is the best place to post them for sale ????

ebay. But you really need to get better pictures, for example, frame materials and a list of components. Also ebay only works if you are willing to ship, local pickup only on ebay is a bust. In that case, sell on Craigs List. But without knowing your location, no idea the best route to sell. With more info, that Maruishi "could" be a deal at $200, really depends on frame materials and components.

If you want to sell them on this list, you will need to have a paid membership.

treebound 11-16-10 09:07 PM

Yeah, I ride the hoods and flats and sometimes in the drops. I don't have great flexibility and typically have the bar top near even with the saddle top. I also have a long torso and am probably proportionately shorter leg'd than you. 30" inseam pants are my normal length but with a size 46L-48R suit jacket size.

Somehow this is related to this thread, must be the Japanese Kangaroo. :)

Tange900 is the high volume production equivalent of Tange 2. (= Very good stuff.)
(I had Shogun with it and it was very light and pleasant.)

Here is a very old reference to it from another thread by T-Mar. (And he always knows what he's talking about.)

-That being said - your Maruishi is not a schlock bike.
