Hercules, unknown year

I have the opportunity to get this bike and am wondering what its value might be. I do not know the year. Only that it is made in Nottingham, England. I had no luck finding something similar on ebay for comparison. I have been shopping for a newer road bike but saw this and thought it would be neat to take out now and then.

Hi ,
I have a small collection of Hercules machines, mostly from the Pre Raleigh buy out era, but I have a few 60's and 70's era road and town bikes in the stable. Can you check the derailleur and see who has manufactured it , it may well be a Huret Allvit ? It looks on first impression to be one of the Raleigh lineage but it's a small photo and i'm half blind ! :) So I may be wrong. |
Oh and what does the head badge look like ?
|
Appears to be a mid to late 1970s, entry level model. Yes, that does look like an Allvit rear derailleur. Looks clean. About $50-$75 in my region.

I absolutley agree with that, in my country I would be comfortable paying about 50 pounds for that bike, maybe a little more if pushed but no more than 75 pounds. That nicely conditioned pump most likely fetches 10 pounds on its own provided it is functionally sound and 5 for the bottle cage.
As a second bike for a bit of a hack without having to worry about expensive components being stripped by theives etc you could do a lot worse. It has a good frame and decent enough wheels and is a comfortable enough ride. I've seen a lot of problems with their in house manufactured brakes however , but a change of cabling and pads might be a small but worthwhile investment (and a possible bartering tool to get 10-15 dollars off the price ?) Nowt' wrong with a good bit of entry level Raleigh/Hercules.. and this one does indeed look clean and well looked after for its age. Good luck with the bike if you get it and enjoy riding it. |
