hello is this a worthy project

I came across this yesterday http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...STRK:MESELX:IT guerciotti frames always looked interesting but little info is available on them so I figured I would ask the experts is this the top of its line and would this make a nice bike to restore thanks

To my eye, it looks like a re-paint. I think that the cutouts in the lugs would be crisper if it were original paint. Regardless, it looks like a nice frame, ask the seller what size seatpost the bike takes, that might make it a bit easier to guess at the type of tubing used in the bike's construction.

My size as well.

Looks like a fantastic project. Especially at a good price.

I have no clue about a repaint, but these guys /\/\ know what they are talking about.

You'll have no problems with me bidding though, as I am knee deep in "projects" for the next year or two.

Seller is probably giving the straight story. Probably late 70's but hard to pin down exact year. May be repaint or as seller says, may simply have extensive touch-ups. Definitely a high end frame: Campagnolo dropouts front and rear, nice clean work at transition between stays/forks and dropouts, nice long point lugs thinned at the points, pretty work on the seatstay caps.

You may have seen this, but looks very similar to the frame on the '78 bike on this CR page: http://www.classicrendezvous.com/Ita...Guerciotti.htm

Identical frame details as this Ray Dobbins '79 as well, but the ebay example is a bit more tame! http://www.raydobbins.com/ebay/bike-...guerciotti.htm

seller says a 27.2 fits in nice and he also says the bike looks like the decals were masked off and it was sprayed over ( I was planning to strip it anyway) the color looks like a 60s ford falcon .... so you think its a better grade frame than ?? and thanks
