Early 90's lemond
 

Hey guys I'm thinking of buying this bike. I would do it just to resell it so I just need to know resale value. He's told me its equipped with Shimano 600 and its about a 55cm. How much would you guys pay for it to flip if this is the only photo you could get? It's kind of a long drive to go see it so I kind of want to have some numbers in my head before I go and this is the only photo he could give me.
He also says the original wheels are included.

It's possible those wheels are worth more than the frame and components. Ask what they are and check some completed listings on ebay. Some of those aerospoke wheels go for big bucks. Sorry can't help on the frame - don't know much about LeMonds. The Shimano 600 components aren't worth terribly much, though the STI shifters (is that what I see?) could be worth $50-$100 depending on condition.

Given the lack of details I'd try to clear $400 on the wheels and $300 on the bike after keeping the aerobars for myself and installing a used wheelset. That would put my offer at $350 or less. If the bike was my size I might go as high as $400.

After doing some research I think the frame is a "team z" and the wheels are "spin" brand trispokes. I searched ebay but there isn't much reference. There's a bike with the same frame, but has a full Campy C-record group that sold for about $1100 and thats all I could reference. He wants $500 so I'm thinking I'll point out a few things and bring him down some. He says his friend moved away and gave him the bike, but it's too big for him.

Turned out to be quite a haul. It is a Lemond Team Z Ventoux frame with full Shimano 600 group, Spin Tri-Spoke wheels, and Carbon fork. Plus, it came with original fork, original wheelset, lots of brand new tubes, extra tires, aerobar water bottle, computer, frame pump, new gloves, and some more stuff. What do you guys think the original wheelset is worth? The carbon fork? The stem is interesting, it's a LOOK ERGOSTEM. What do you guys think?

Sell the wheels unless you want to keep them. Can probably get $250 to $400 for them (yes, that is a wide range, assuming you sell on ebay, the variance can be incredible). Not a lot of value in the carbon fork, unless it is something special that I do not recognize. Stem could have some value. I would be moving some stuff to ebay, assuming you have the time/interest/skill to market on ebay, and a spotless sales record.

I really like picking up bikes with extras. On a couple of them, I was able to cover the purchase price with the extras alone. Then it is a "free" bike. A lot of buyers don't put much value on extras, they lack imagination. You could be really close to covering the purchase price on this one, and end up with a really high end bike.

Depending on your market, you might be able to sell some of the stuff locally. I sold a Zipp wheelset a couple of years ago, for slightly less than what I could have gotten on ebay. But selling parts and components locally is a real crapshoot.
