1974 schwinn Paramount

I’m trying to determine the value of my 1974 Schwinn Paramount. I’m the original owner or this bike, but the bike is not all original.

Please read carefully before posting a reply. I have the OE parts not pictured, except for the OE wheel-set.

The frame, drive-train, brakes, cockpit are original. I have the original Brooks Pro saddle, Campagnolo seatpost and pedals in storage.

The main item that is missing the OE wheel-set, the wood filled Weinman rims/Campagnolo tubular wheel-set is gone. I do have a restorable set of OE Campagnolo hubs available. The current wheel-set is a 121mm rear/110mm front 1980’s high flange Dura Ace with Sun CR 18 700c rims.

The paint is in excellent condition, however the paint is a factory restoration, completed at the Chicago factory in 1980.

Two question: What would the bike be worth? I would install the original Brooks Pro saddle, Campagnolo seat-post and pedals prior to marketing.

Second. Is it worth more parted out? How much would all the Campagnolo items be worth, if sold as a group-set? The frame-set? I'll make every effort to keep the bike together, but will use "break-up" value to determine a base price.

Hi Barrettscv -
I will preface this by saying I'm not a Paramount expert - but I see this one sold on eBay for $1876.

I think it's about the equivalent of yours - if you retrofit the OEM parts you mentioned. (This one that sold dd not have the original wheel set BTW)

I think a repaint will push the value down from that ebay sale. Great looking bike, with the original seat post reinstalled, it should attract plenty of interest.

This one sold for $2625.00: https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT

Is that some kind of record?

Wow, thats the highest I have seen. Chrome Paramounts always draw a hefty premium. But I haven't seen them go that high.

I agree with Bill and say that the repaint will prevent collectors from getting in a bidding war over your bike. I sold a powder coated Sports Tourer on ebay recently and got numerous unsolicited messages from folks berating me for "ruining" the bike. I think that you would get $500 on a bad day and $1000 on a good day.

Why do you want to sell?

I could part it out for well over $500, just saying.

The paint is not original but it is a factory repaint, not some powder-coat POS.

The bike is too small for me and I need to reduce my collection of bikes from 6 to 2.

Consider starting the auction at what you think a part out will net, and go from there. So if you think a part out is $600, start your auction there. I would not be surprised to see it go for $1000, or higher. I have given up trying to predict ebay auctions, too much variance.

Thrifty Bill's advice makes sense. For what it is worth, I sold a 1973 Paramount frame that was also a factory repaint for $350 back in November. It had decals that were incorrect for its year. Nevertheless, I believe I could have sold it for more than that, but needed to sell it.

How much is the Group-set worth? I could offer the crankset, FD & RD, shift levers, handlebar w/ brake levers & brakes. Again, I'm just trying to varify part-out value.
