1988 Peugeot Deauville

I have a beautiful 1988 Peugeot Deauville (Super Vitus 980 tubes) that I am considering selling. I bought it new and have been the only rider. I love the bike but the wife is making me clean house before I can buy anything else.

So, what kind of price range would this sell for?

When new this bike cam with a mis-mash of Huret and New Success components on it. I changed it right away to a complete Shimano 600 grupo. I think that I have the majority of the original stuff. Should I convert it back before I sell or just include as part of the sale? Which way would bring a better price?

Maybe some real Peugeot expert will weigh in here, but I'll give you my thoughts:

Since you did not provide pics, I'll just assume it's in excellent condition and much like the (blue) catalog pic below:

In Vitus with the original components I would price it around $300-350 assuming it is very clean and original. It may be hard to get that locally though, because not everyone loves French bikes like we do here. Still it has a lot going for it - English threads, engraved crown, etc. (You will have to take really good photos and present them full size on CL or eBay from a image hosting account.)

Actually that's not a lot of money for what it is, and if you sell it, you'll probably regret it.

If you do sell it anyway, I would suggest converting it back and selling the 600 bits on eBay separately. I think this will bring the most $.

PS - If the wife wants you to do housecleaning before buying anything more, why don't you just break out the mop and broom and then go on a bike binge?

Thats probably about right. Peugeot prices are all over the map, I've seen U-series bikes sell for PX10 prices and PX10 sell for crazy high prices. There seems to be very little hierarchy. In reality the OEM components aren't very desireable but they are original.

What size is it?

Sorry that I took so long to reply, I've been traveling a lot lately.

Thanks for the replies. You are correct it is exactly like the blue one shown in the catalog and except for a little staining on the white paint, is nearly perfect.

It is a 58, and I really don't think I will sell it. Even though I rarely ride it anymore I love to just look at it. The new bikes just can't compete with the style.
