Rusty Guerciotti
I’d love to restore this Guerciotti, but is it worth it? I got a quote from Joe Bell and Cyclart at about 800-900 to get it repainted. This would include painting the chrome fork and chain stays as opposed to get the chrome redone.
It’s a 57cm and I believe to be SLX tubing, but I’m not certain. Shimano 105 brakes, not sure what group Campanoglo components.
I mentioned on another post that my son inherited my other Guerciotti (white) and I now ride a Casati. I would like to keep the red one in the family as a second bike. It would be a fun - an expensive project; I’m just not sure it would be worth the investment of time and money.
I gather is not cool to get the frame powder coated?
If I Ebay it, what’s a fair price?
Let the experts in weigh in…

It comes down to how bad you want to restore it. And by restore do you mean showroom condition or just make it nice again. Hard to tell from the photos, but the frame does not look all that bad. The 10 Speed Drive paint jobs were pretty solid, so a little patience in touching up could bring surprising results. It was my experience with my SLX Gooch, what I thought was rust showing where paint was gone turned out to be primer. But if you are determined to have it refinished, look into other painters also. Joe Bell is top notch, but Dave at Southwest Frameworks does excellent work as does Franklin Frame.
If you just want to keep it, make it look nice and ride it, then powder coat is a viable option.

Yeah - by "worth it," do you mean in terms of potential resale value? If so, you rarely recoup the cost. If you mean "worth it" in term of whether or not the bike is worthy, that's a very individual decision.

good looking bike. with a little elbow grease, cleaners, polish and some nailpolish to touchup that can be a great looking rider.
