So I got this about a year ago from my friend's dad, and it's been nice, but I'm looking for an upgrade. As far as I know, it's stock except for the pedals, which are Shimano SPD clipless (unsure of the model, could probably look that up). I also swapped the freewheel out, but I'll be returning it back to what it had on. It's in pretty good condition, and it's a 54cm. Here are some pics(not that current, but it's still in the same condition):





I'm looking to know what a fair price for listing it on Craig's list would be.

where are you located? I would say $300 depending on the market and if you include the extras... like pump, bag, light...

you could also Ask for $300 and take off $20 if they don't want the pedals... I find most people have their own pedals or do not want clip in pedals. I would think you could get $20 for the pedals.

Frame size also makes a difference... looks like a smaller frame.

I'm 99% sure it's a 54cm, so I suppose it is a bit smaller frame. I wouldn't want to sell the pedals if the next buyer doesn't want them because I'd want them for my next bike. Is a smaller frame not worth as much? I most likely wouldn't be including the extras.

I'd consider 54 to be in the average range.

As a general rule:

small = 48-53
med = 54-58
large = 59+

No discount or premium would apply due to size of frame in this case. The 54 cm size should help it move quickly though.

54cm is a great frame size... many potential buyers looking for that size frame... if they know it or not...

Pull off the extras and the pedals and list for $300 of $325. Do you have a set of cheap pedals to replace them with? If you have the cleats definatly keep the pedals for your next ride.

Again... location is key... I live in a good bike market and I think I could sell your bike in my area for $300

Nice looking Trek with 531 tubing? I'd ask $400 in Portland market. Be willing to take $350 and have it gone fairly quickly. Like others have noted, however, location is important.

I'd probably get a more standard saddle on it, scrounge through the $5 take off bin at the LBS. I'd imagine only a small subset of riders would like that bulbous a saddle on their road bike.

I don't have an extra set of pedals, but I could probably get some along with a new saddle. I live in San Diego, particularly the Carmel Valley area, so if anyone has some insight on how this affects the price, that'd be great. So as it is, looking around 300ish?

$300 easy, I'd think. Make sure you sell the 531 tubing in your ad.

Someone has an '89 420 up for $220, but it has the less desirable True Temper tubing.

Also sell the massive tire clearance. Looks like you could fit 32s in the back no problemo, if the front is the same this is a big selling point for some folks. My old '89 400 could fit (barely) 38mm CX tires front and rear.

Black bar tape might help sell it fast also. You can often get mail order cork for $5-6.

It's got new black bartape on it now, that pic's just a bit old. If 300 is easy, what do you think I could go for?

If you're in no hurry, I'd just go for my Portland figures from earlier. Post for $400, accept offers of $350. Try that for a couple weeks. Adjust downward as your patience wanes.
