Velo Sport Jocelyn Lovell

I have an old velo sport Jocelyn Lovell model road bike (red), does anyone know what year this was made in, and how much it's worth. There's no information to be found about this bike on Google!?!

Do you have pictures? It seems like the frames that Jocelyn Lovell made himself were just labeled "Lovell" with the "v" shaped like a heart.

I was expecting a pro level bike. This one from the one image appears reasonable but middle line, maybe a notch below that for the components, like the crankset. If someone has a special interest in the name and the story behind it maybe worth more. As a bike, locally in Southern California one would probably ask $250 or more and actually sell it for $150-$175.

A friend sent me some pictures of his bike. Does anyone know about this frame? I know now about Jocelyn Lovell now but the logo is different from the heart shaped V. He said it was built in Florida and has had it for three years. It has an Easton Ultra light tapered wall sticker on the frame. Made in USA.

thanks for looking.

Jocelyn hasn't built anything since his tragic bicycle accident in 1984, that's definitely not his logo on the frame.

Sorry, but I highly doubt it's a Jocelyn Lovell

Hello gvon79! That is a beautiful Velo Sport you have there! I have been scouring the Internet looking for that exact bike as my father used to own that special edition Jocelyn Lovell model before we lost it in a move. I know this is a long shot as your post is a couple years old but do you still have it?

A buddy of mine bought the aluminum model pictured, as a new frame, at Atlanta Cycling around 2002. It was comparable to all the other 7005 bikes everyone had in those days. I believe it was probably a bike marketed with Jocelyn Lovell's name being borrowed, as is often the case. A "branded" bike. There was also a "Lovell" bike in the 30's or 40's I think, like a roadster style thing.

My coach in highschool rode a Jocelyn-made Lovell. It was a fine handmade bike. THat Velo Sport looks like a decent bike but it is not the same thing. Perhaps Mr. Lovell licensed the use of his name early on to raise money for his own brand, or maybe after the accident to raise money to deal with his disability. I was not aware of anyone else building Lovell bikes since the '80s, but I could be wrong. Perhaps that aluminum bike is unrelated, made by someone else named 'Lovell'.

Nice 7005 framesets were around $800 new in those days. If I had one hanging NOS in a bikeshop I owned today, I'd ask half that and take 300 to move it. The truth is that I got just as much pleasure and performance out of my aluminum Columbus tubed Allez Pro as I do my CF Tarmac Pro, but aluminum is simply the unloved child of frame material at the moment. A whole bike? I guess the wheels and group would have a lot to do with the value. Hope that helps!
