Raleigh Grand Prix mixte: fix and sell or use for parts?
Found a Raleigh Grand Prix mixte at the dump today and rescued it for $5. Has a taco'd rear wheel and could use the usual TLC, but is pretty nice, overall. I'm guessing I can easily clean it up and sell it in the fall (live in a college town). How much can I get for her?
My only hesitation is that I personally ride an earlier ('73) Grand Prix roadbike and am VERY tempted by some of this bike's components -- cotterless cranks, Suntour retro-friction shifters. Would the cotterless crank swap on directly to my GP's bottom bracket? More important, would I be benefitting more in the long run by flipping the bike or by using it to upgrade the parts (cotterless cranks for old Raleighs are tough to come by, to my understanding)?
It IS a very nice looking bike deserving of a second life, so whatever I do, rest assured it won't go back to the dump.
