My CL find!

I Hope this isn't too new to post.
I picked this up yesterday on craigslist for $75. Was wondering how I did? The bike is very clean and came with the original wheels and a upgraded set.
My daily driver is also my touring bike and a bit heavy and I have been looking for a light road bike with a 58 frame. I don’t know a great deal about Cannondale so any information or tips about this bike will be greatly appreciated. My other bike has STI shifting but the Sora seems to work fine from the hoods but a little awkward from the drops.
The paint is perfect except one small chip on the top tube to touch up.
Well here is what the ad said.

Men's Cannondale road bike 58 cm. Shimano Sora, Ultegra components. Two sets of wheels

Any Cannondale is worth $75, with STI and the extra wheels you did great.

You stole it at that price. Tip the bars down a bit to make it look less nerdy.

It might not be a bad idea, actually, to check the police logs in the city. Sounds like someone, somewhere got ripped.

amazing purchase, though.

Actually, that's a horrible thing to assume. Top notch Craigslist surfing!

Actually in reading the ad about 3 minutes after the posting came up and receiving a reply back within minutes I thought " Ok here we go". But I was given a time and address and told there was a for sale sign on the house, upscale neighborhood etc. When I got there the guy was middle age in great shape and showed me the bike and when asked why he was selling he said moving to Fla. and already have a Felt bike down there and won't need two bikes. He also had 600 pounds of free weights and a dozen bars and a bench he was selling for 50 bucks and no one is about to rip off all that weight to sell. He explained every detail of the bike and even suggested a bike shop out of town he used not trusting the local shop. The real kicker was when he saw I was about to transport it on a hanging bike rack, he cringed and said it's yours now will be its first ride hanging. I really thought when I saw the bike and the price on line it was ether a scam or stolen or someone uninformed selling the bike, wife selling ex's bike etc. Actually was none of the above. I even went as far as to ask why the seat was too high as he was a little shorter than me and he said oh I raise it so I can attach it to the bike repair stand.

Funny you should say that about the bars. Was the first thing I did tipping the bars down.
This is the first bike I have had with the Sora thumb pushbutton shifter, my other bike is STI. I have been reading up on it and gather it was designed for a casual rider shifting from the hoods. I plan on making a bar change to some type of bull horn bars and thought that would work well with the Sora shifters. Most likely a different stem and peddles also. What I will do is save all the original parts with the factory wheels. If I end up reselling it down the road could be all restored to factory.

Does anyone know where I could get touch up paint in this burgundy / wine color?

All others thanks for the comments also.
Bud

The extra set of wheels alone is probably worth close to $75. The low price sure gives you plenty of room for upgrades, accessories, and new tires if needed. What do you usually get for $75? Think Sears Free Spirit with "Nerf" bar tape, low-end Shimano derailleurs, stem shifters and turkey levers. Did you post this on the "Catch of the Day" thread yet? It sure belongs there!

I'm new to the forums so I didn’t even know of the "catch of the day" but with a search I found it.
You are very correct around here you can get a fairly nice rider for 75 bucks but nothing of any quality. The old 10s with suicide shifters and dry rot tires are in the $15 range and I have bought my fair share of them for a part or two I wanted and have the leftovers around forever. I bought a Schwinn Le Tour for $1 at a yard sale a few years back that had set in a shed for 25 years or more and looked to be total junk and brought it back to life for way too much money.
Below is my $10 garage sale KHS that was set up for racing that I converted into a light tour around town grocery getter bike. I kept all the mtn bike race parts and could easily switch it all back if needed.

I get teased a lot about having 20 bikes around but I point out it's a lot cheaper hobby than 30 sports cars. I really only have 3 that I really enjoy riding and I think the Cannondale is going to be number 4.

Now if I could just find a Brooks saddle for my touring bike for a couple bucks. ;-)

I just found the June 1989 ad for the KHS from Cyclist magazine. Made me wonder how many automobiles make it 22 years in that good of shape.
Not sure why she had the bike in the ocean……
