Schwinn Voyager Chrome 1980-81 $$$?

This bike was my covid lockdown project. The rust was under the crackled clear coat, wheels were beyond saving, seat post did not survive unsticking. It was perfect to dig into to occupy my mind and look forward to riding. I found an environmentally mild way to remove the failed clear coat. It turns out that citrus stripper applied in full Wisconsin summer sun goes into over-drive. Wipe off with a paper towel very little rubbing needed. Tape off the decals of course. In my enthusiasm for the project, I failed to note that the bike is a 62cm when I ride a 58cm. No problem. I really like this bike so just be sure not to do anything that would cause your bifurcation to meet up with the top tube. I have seen values in the web of $193 to $1200. Anyone here care to weigh in with a dose of reality?
Thanks

Yes, that is a tall bike. Some say that hurts resale, and I would agree, because it limits your target audience. Maybe you get lucky and find a tall person looking for a quality vintage bicycle. That's the hope anyway.

As far as it being chrome, I guess you have witnessed the inherent issue of rusting. The clear coat is only so effective and when it eventually rusts, the clear coat needs to be removed in order to remove the rust. Going forward a good wax and regular maintenance of same should help, as will avoiding riding it and putting it away wet.

I love chrome. Funny that the only fully chrome bike I've owned was a Bianchi Pista track bike that I sold because it was just too tall. Small world.

But I find the chrome appealing and hopefully a potential buyer does as well. Having said all of that, I'd list it as $300.00 OBO and see what happens. I assume all of the mechanicals are in good working order, tires decent, etc.

$1200 as in SOLD, or $1200 as in ASKING. For someone into desirable Schwinns, I see painted 1970s Paramounts sold in the $600 to $1000 price range. And those will have full Campy parts. The full chrome 1970s Paramount is in the $1500 and up price range.

This is a Voyageur 11.8 which is no match for a Paramount.

The highest SOLD chrome Voyageur in the last year was $475. Then you have fees, income taxes, and buyer wins all disputes. Even though I am a very active seller on ebay, on complete bikes I use the 50% rule. If I can get 50% of the ebay price locally, I'm selling local. So $250 is the 50% rule. I'd price at $300 locally and see what happens. I see some remaining rust which will affect value. Another reason to sell locally.

Please don't confuse ebay "asking" prices with "selling" prices. Many sellers never get their ask price. some are far from it. Value is determined once an item actually SELLS. Its easy enough to check SOLD prices.

Very nice bike with typical great Schwinn chrome yet as said only $250 or so local value anything with a big frame and DT shifters is just a really hard to sell in the current market which has gone way done in the last year or so.

I see chrome Voyagers list around $300 fairly often. They don’t seem to sell right away so I’d guess they’re transacting mid $200s.

great bike, I have two of these. Bought one for $100 (a steal) and paid about $350 shipped on Ebay for the second one. I would value yours between $250 and $350. Maybe get the membership and try to sell it in the C&V Classifieds here first, these seem to be popular frames and they ride very well even in original configuration.

Another option is to part it out, Frame/Fork would prob bring $200+ on Ebay, looks like a Brooks Saddle which would prob bring $50-$70. Super Maxy crankset is fairly desirable, the wheel set is nice if you need it to complete a build, etc. Hate to see complete bikes parted out - but I have found this is the best way to get fair money for tall bikes as shipping complete tall bikes on sold on Ebay is typically over $100

I sold one in May 2021 for $380 on local CL. Sold in three weeks. I could actually clear the top tube, and I am only 5'9"

We still have an ok market here in Southern California and some interest in the classics. That is a nice bike in rider / good condition the chrome is a plus and I really like the red cables with chrome bikes. Too bad it is large sized( good for me) as the seat post is so far down , almost against the top tube but I think it would sell quickly at $275 and with some detail work and the right tall buyer perhaps $350. I have sold two large frame bikes and I was lucky both sold for good money( I don’t like giving my bikes away) in less than three weeks. You can see that the one Starbiker sold is detailed with the cables nice and tidy , the seat post adjusted correctly, that he got good return for a little effort. Yours is close , I think it would only take half a day , and if you are interested in selling , would pay off.

Schwinn voyager chrome $$$?

Thanks everyone for the good suggestions about price, detailing and presentation. I still ride it occasionally maybe that is holding back a full press to sell it. I rode my other painted Voyager today. These classics sure don't disappoint.
