ttt stem ID. (MADE ITALY)
I just brought home an old PX10 that needs some serious lovin and noticed the quill stem was a bit peculiar. On the left side it's satmped with t t t. On the right side is MADE ITALY. Not made in Italy or made in jtaly.
My searches came up with no results for this stem and I was wondering if any of you could shed dome light on this thing. I can post pics if you really need them but not til later.
Edit: I found one for sale ad of a NOS version.
He's asking like $160 which I think is astronomical.
I don't know if its a stock piece on the px10 or not.
I'm guessing not as the ad has it listed as a 60's model and my px10 is early 70s

PX10 had some French piece of junk stem on it IIRC, so a TTT stem would be an upgrade.

3t ttt or Techno Tubo Torino made a "budget" line of stems. I think you are describing one, I have seen these before. Cast, not forged, Cad plated hardware on the one I saw. as advised, probably better than the Pivo used on many. A ttt stem in a French diameter is unusual. I don't think in this case that rare translates into valuable.

It does appear to be cast. I think I'll keep it on the px-10 as I already know it fits.

Does it look like this?
If so it's an early TTT stem - made from the 1960s- ?, and it is (or was) a pretty desirable item among the fixie crowd so the price does not surprise me.
I have one on my (Italian) Ganna, but I would imagine to find one in French sizing would indeed be unusual.

Yes, that's the stem I have. Is there a model name for it? I doubt I'll be selling it as I don't have any other French sized stems and I don't think buying one after selling mine would really be cost effective.
Thanks for the info,
Alex

If you have this type of stem on a a px-10 there is a very good chance that at some point forks and stem where switched out for the forks and stem off of another bike which is not all that uncommon on old road bikes.
