How much would you pay for this Raleigh Superbe?

I'm looking at this bicycle and, being a college student, find it hard to buy beautiful things.

How much would you pay for this bicycle?

Something nowhere close to 800$. I paid about 100$ for mine, and it had the brooks saddle on it. Maybe 250-300 for a nice example.

I'm in Indiana and looking for a large size frame Raleigh 3 speed as well. For a "mint" condition one I would go as high as $300. Otherwise, they should sell for $150 - $200. Keep in mind that I'm checking prices in the Chicago / Louisville / Cincinnatti as well.

Where I'm at it would probably sell for $150-$250. Everyone wants a road bike here though.

Agreed. Around here super nice examples go for $300 at the very top. $200 is more in the ballpark.

In MINT condition I might get $400.00 for a Superbe if it had it's leather Brooks and was basically, still in it;s shipping box and this is nowhere near that in condtion although it is in very nice condition.

I don't sell oodles of bikes but when I do they have been torn down and completely overhauled and would be asking $300.00 - $350.00 and backing the bike and the service down to it.

That is a pretty nice Superbe, in my opinion. I have sold those guys for as much as $300.00, plus shipping, which brings the value to $400+. But the Surpebe shown is a bit nicer than most available, except for the stupid wing on the front fender. Might as well hang some fuzzy dice somewhere on the bicycle to match;-)

Anyway, I agree with Sixty Fiver, and $400.00 is a decent price, but not much more at this time. Next Spring will be a different matter.

$800 seems awfully high for a 70's 3speed no matter how nice it is. I haven't seen anything in a 3speed sell for more than $300-400 cl in the Denver market this year. I would shop around some more in a large market like LA you should be able to find a nicer C&V bikes for a less money.

Sold my '78 Superbe with nary a scuff on it and in 110% shape for $375.00 some years ago... have sold other nearly mint 3 speeds for $225.00 - up but 400.00 is still quite a reach unless the bike is pretty much perfect in every respect.

Consider though that these bikes have been gaining in popularity over the past five years and that a modern replacement that isn't made in China or Taiwan will cost you $800.00 and up.

Put nice alloy rims on a Raleigh Superbe and you have a bicycle that is every bit as nice, and in many respects nicer than a Pashley.

The chrome looks to be marginal. The seat and grips are not original. The paint looks pretty good. The front wheel has the dynohub on the wrong side. I dunno, certainly not an $800 cycle.
But it does have a 23" frame, a dynohub and a nice Prestube rear rack.
In Boston at this time of year it might go for $350-ish.

Wow, the prices you guys are getting for these things is amazing, I will have to adjust my prices! I've sold a bunch of Superbes and similar Raleighs over the years and the most I ever received was $180 for a perfect speciman. In fact I have a couple in the garage that have been sitting for months as they were last on my list. I think they just got bumped to the top.
