Massive issues identifying year and make (My guess atm is mirage/super mirage, but it's not very educated) Tried staring at the Motobecane catalogs and they all started merging together, so I needs myself some more experienced eyes.

just finished buffing off the majority of oxidation, cleaning all the grime off, and rebuilding the bearing'd areas whats grease had turned into something else.

Tubes, tires and chain are brand spankin' new.

I believe it to be an early 70's mirage-you can date it from component codes(perhaps the rdr) on the trek site. The super mirage had alloy wheels and I belive bars as well. That's a pretty bike and a nice rear brake set up. IMO:Well worth upgradeing with alloy wheels-bars-seatpost-crank etc. I like the suntour vgt. Since this is in the appr thread/as is not much over 100-just changeing the rims-you could do better. Find a doner bike for some wheels. BTW the headbadge puts it in the 70's vintage.

I think Motobecane started putting SunTour derailleurs on this bike around 1976. That's about where I would date the bike.

It is a very pretty bike but...

I disagree with this. Would cost a fortune unless all the parts were on hand, and you'd still be left with a hi-ten frame and friction stem shifters (could swap those out too I suppose.) IMO, leave it as-is unless you can get parts very cheap.

I agree with this also. I'm going through a similar dilema restoring two matching his and hers 1980 Lotus Grand Prix bicycles. The model was made for two years at best and the second year models came with alloy rims, 1980 models were steel. I rode the mens bike and it feels fine with the steel rims, for what it is. I'm going to leave them stock, you can always use the excuse "they came that way".

I'll probably stop at new wires/covers, and maybe pads if I can get em' cheap enough (They should be replaced but function fine despite being created 30 years ago.) FYI, This is something that I found in the garage of a family member that none could use and since I had all but the cassette cog removal tool the parts/tools cost was minimal. Before my work and testing it probably had 50 miles on it.

If I can score 50 in profit for something that I found relaxing to work on and acquired for free, that's cool.

If you apply some of the information contained in How Old Is My Bike? you should be able to figure out how old the bicycle is. Pay closest attention to the section on components.
