1990 Schwinn Voyageur

I would very much appreciate hearing from you Schwinn experts out there. I am considering buying a 1990 or 1991 Voyageur (both model years appear identical). The bike is moderately priced. I have searched extensively on Bike Forums and the internet generally and there is not a whole lot out there on these bikes. I believe the Suntour XCE components were fairly low level and I could change these out to better components. What I am really interested in knowing is the quality of the frame. The frame material is Tange double-butted Cr-Moly, but no one seems to know the level. There has also been speculation that the frames come from the 1980's when there was an excess after the touring bike market dropped. There is also question of whether the frame was seamless or seamed. I will buy it if there is a consensus that the frame is good to high quality. Thanks in advance for any guidance any of you can give me.

Just an educated guess, but I think the early to mid 1980's frames were Tange Champion. Do any catalog scans list frame material?

1990 Schwinn Voyageur: https://www.trfindley.com/flschwinn_1...ad_Cat_28.html
And the specs: https://www.trfindley.com/flschwinn_1...ad_Cat_33.html

Looks like solid specs with the bar-end shifters, canti brakes, and 36/40 spoke wheels. Tange double butted tubing. Nothing exotic but it would be a great touring bike.

Thanks. I probably don't need another bike, but I am a sucker for the older steel framed touring bikes. I would like to build up a dedicated touring bike and I want to get a quality frame. I would like a frame that would compare favorably to a modern touring frame like a surly LHT. Below is a picture of Voyageur.

Yes, the earlier Voyageurs specified Tange Champion. The 1990/ 91 catalogue simply says "Tange double-butted Chrome-Moly". I read somewhere that there were five grades of Tange Cr-Mo. It would be nice to know the grade.
