Talk in or out of this: Late 50's, early 60's woman's Hercules 3 speed

Hi all

I stopped in a thrift tonight and there was a pretty nice woman's Hercules 3-sp for $16.50.

It's the same style as this (stock photo) single speed, but with a Sturmy-Archer coaster 3-sp.

It's in decent shape with a tiny bit of surface rust on the rims. As a bounus it has a nice headlight and generator tail light. Overall it's in pretty good shape.

Usually, this would be a no-brainer flip, but right now my life is fairly complicated and busy. I checked ebay, and these seem to routinely bring $100 in similar condition. I could really use the cash

At most I would have to put in about 2 hours of time to clean it up. I'm inclined to check back first thing tomorrow an see if I can snag it for a flip. What would you do

It should be gone already. Around here, that bike would last five minutes at that price, tops. Heck, even the crappy BSO's go pretty fast.

I picked up a very similar Triumph (but somewhat newer) at a thrift store for $12.50, paint and fenders were pristine. A little mechanical tuneup, and it was on to another home, at a price significantly higher than the one you mentioned.

Even if you do nothing, around here, you could snag it, and resell it as a project for $40 to $50.

Its really whether you want to take on a project or not. Here, for those 2 hours of work, you could probably make $100 plus profit (depends on any parts you might need).

Thanks TB, I'll check on my way into work tomorrow. It's winter here, and maybe I'll luck out.

I got one recently out of a dumbster that was similar but with the Crown Royal label but still made by the now defunct BBC conlogmerant. Fixed a cable and sold it for $100 a couple of days later.

I was waiting at the door when the thrift opened, but no dice. At some point between 6pm and 9pm last night, someone scooped up a deal. After 30 years going to garage sales, rummage sales and estate sales I should know "to get while the gettings good".

C'est la vie. There's always another bike out there. Thanks for the replies.
