Motobecane Grand Record questions
From what I can tell this is possibly a 73 Grand Record, everything sans wheels. The gentleman selling it wants $50 and I am pretty sure that is a steal, would have to be taking on another project.
Second opinions, things to watch for? I am guessing this would have originally been a ten speed.

The frame is a steal at $50. Buy it. The only thing to watch out for with some old French bikes is that the BB and HS may be French threaded. I don't know offhand whether this bike is like that but this bike comes with both a BB and HS so it isn't a problem.

May be hard to tell without wheels, but at least try to check the frame to make sure it's straight.
If nothing else, the components should be worth $50 if you are going to use them for yourself.

+1 unless there's a serious problem, bent frame or horrible rust, go for it. I would be on my way to get it now. In fact, where did you say you live?

The TA crank is probably worth more than $50

Looks well worth the price a potentially great builder. Things to look for make sure the BB is fairly good as this likely has a odd size TA BB which could prove problamatic to replace. That the likely odd size seat post is of decent quality and not stuck. The French stem and headset are good. Also does it have Mafac or Wieman brakes cant't tell from pics not a deal breaker but does effect value Mafacs are worth a lot more and much better if you intend to to use them on your build. Also I suspect this bike had 12 speed gearing originally for your info.
