Always liked Panasonic track bikes and used to own a dx-4000, but not sure if the roadies live up to the hype in a similar way people are talking about bridgestone road bikes in the rb1 thread

Isn't tange 1 the highest of the series then?

anyway, looking for approximate value and people's thoughts on this

suntour gxp components, 14 spd. seller wants $325 which at first glance seems pretty reasonable. says its a 58 but that stem goes up for days

Like most bike manufacturers (such as Schwinn, Raleigh, Peugeot, etc.) Panasonic made bikes from the bottom barrel to the very high end. So, IMO, the brand is not too important here. What is important is the tubing, components, and condition. Tange 1 was good, and GPX was higher up. Condition looks good too, except for that possible dent. And is that a cheesy steel seatpost?

Nice bike, but I'd be thinking $250-275. $325 is just a bit much for what I can see of it.

seatpost and saddle are all carefully MIA from the pictures available.

thanks btw. yeah I figured it was a little higher than most areas. we don't have nicer vintage bikes pop up here, so it's really hard to gauge prices

I could see it easily getting $325 in the atlanta market if it didn't have that dent in the top tube

Assuming it's in good shape 325 is not overpriced for a dx5000 in a decent market imo. A really good dx3000 can fetch 250-275 and that has lower end components and lower end Tange. dx5000's can be hard to find.

The only things I can see that are undesirable would be the tires and the possibly replaced seatpost (and most likely saddle as well). Some would argue that aesthetically this isn't one of the more sought after 5000's (in terms of color scheme/year) but that is a matter of preference.

If it is in good shape, fits, and you can get it for 300-325 you've done fine. Depending on how hot your market is and how likely it is to sell I'd use the dirty tires and likely unoriginal seatpost/saddle to start at 250/275 and go from there.

These Panasonic bikes are among my favorite bikes from this era. The ride quality is very nice.

If that is indeed a dent in the top tube then I wouldn't even make an offer. I know some will say that it's fine in that area on a steel frame, and they're probably right, but I still wouldn't buy it at that price with a dent. Actually after looking again that really looks like a dent.

Yeah, I think someone posted the same pics (or that ad) a little while back and that dent makes it all a no go. Beautiful condition other than that. Too bad.

I saw that one, I think on eBay, dent in top tube was not so clear (or disclosed) in other pics I'd seen but 99% sure it was the same bike.

C&Ver Snarkypup in Seattle has one, paid about that price, but that one looked to be immaculate. Higher end bike with good components, and some of us would like the fact that Panasonic bikes are not well known.

That's a terrible ding though, not just the brake hitting the downtube a little. Takes all the charm out the bike.

yeah I didn't mind the color, I could make that purple work I think (removing that non matching bottle cage for starters)

but I asked about the dent and the guy brushed off the question so I guess I'll just move along. tis a shame

He probably won't get too many bites and the bike is still rideable, see if he will take $75.

I would let this one sit awhile I suspect that the seller will take while to sell this one and have to come down a hundred or so maybe more to actually sell the bike. There just isn't a big market for mid priced vintage stuff in the $300-500 price range. Buyers seem to want stuff that is relatively cheap under $200 or exceptionally nice in the $500-1000 price range in most markets.

the seat clamp looks like a quick release...which would not have been stock....odd stuff like that is an alert to me to look carefully...and of course the aforementioned dent.

I just picked up a DX 5000 for $65 at the flea market, 600 group set, no dents, good paint, rideable. It was diffenently a gem in the rust so to speak, but if you have extra cash, and that's the bike you want, go for it. If I had better funds and would just get what I want and not worry about the price as much. This was a random find for me. Cheers.
