The seller is firm on the price. Buying only to help myself feel better after foolishly selling my RB-2.

The brown models are prettier (to me) and here that price is a steal, there I imagine it's fair.

i'd say thats ballpark for my area too - my 72 is...less than cleanish but rides really nice - i love it

That would be a great price here. Too bad the saddle isn't the original Brooks.

Was the Super Course 531? Or a lesser model? I can't remember.. If it's 531, even just the main tubes, then it is well worth the $175 IMO. Otherwise, need more info.

531, but straight gauge, I think. Known to be a bit heavy, but with a very nice ride.

It's a decent deal but it's not going to ride like your RB2 and will weigh 5lbs. more.

No question it's not a subsititute for the RB-2. Comletely different bikes.

Coincidentaly, a nearly identical SC--a 1972--is available for $200 with the original Brooks.

Significantly, the owner of the '72 says his SC is pristine with no rust whatsoever. If his description is accurate, zero rust plus the Brooks is well worth an extra $25, don't you think?

I'd certainly pay that for one that fit.

Yes, absolutely if it fits you, get this one. I'd pay $250 for that bike at least.

Mercian Rider 04-26-12 11:29 AM

Thanks for all your help. I plan to look at both of them tonight.

Both are the same size and fit me--23 amd 1/2" (60cm).

FrenchFit 04-26-12 12:51 PM

I had one in coffee color that ended up FG, it actually got better looking as it aged and faded. Gorgeous bike. Green? no love from me.

Yeah, but this green goes with my handbag and high heels.

Otherwise, thanks for the insight.

I prefer the green ones to the brown, but the best looking, IMO are the red ones.

Here's one Auchencrow posted:

Another illustration of the shortcomings of photos on CL and elsewhere. The difference in condition was night and day. On the first one, a little rust translated to rust completely covering every chromed surface, stays, cranks, everything. The second was ther opposite. Not a hint of rust anywhere. Bought it for $180.

lostarchitect 04-26-12 07:41 PM

Well done.
