Schwinn World Sport and Ross value inquiry

A guy brought them to me today.

The World Sport looks like a '79 (on the R chain stay) and has Suntour Spirt FD, Horizon RD, chrome wheels, Suntour stem-mount shifters. Lugged frame with lined lugs. Decent shape, will look very nice with just a clean-up. He paid $20 and wants to know if it's worth more cleaned up with tires or turned into a ss/fixie. 56cm. I haven't a clue. Looks like Weinmann for Schwinn centerpulls, steel bars, SR stem, gaspipe seat post. Rides nice. Silstar crankset, 3-piece.

The Ross was nicer, lugged steel, lined lugs, pretty nice bike. Avocet saddle, much nicer Suntour friction, also stem-mounted, Weinmann 610's, alloy Weinmann wheelset, DC TT cable guides, DC brake levers, SR stem, Avocet saddle, MKS pedals with Christophe clips. He's wondering if it's worth upgrading. I have a full 2x6 indexed group that'd work on it. I also have a 2x9 set of shifters and a wheelset that may work, too. Worth the upgrade?

Robbie - I sold an '84 Schwinn World Sport completely rehab'd and in excellent condition for $160. About market value anywhere I think.
It was completely original. For earlier versions with steel wheels subtract $50.

As a fixed gear, it depends on your market but here it might get LESS than $20. ( I.e., They simply don't sell modded that way. )

PS- Without a picture of the Ross or at least a model name it would be VERY hard to guess at a value.

+1 1984 is a key year for the WS. Anything prior to that is really bottom of the barrel. How is the FG market in your area? Would probably be a good choice for FG.

The Ross sounds better, but the Ross name is tarnished by all the dept store junk Ross made as well. So unfortunately, it can be hard to convince the average buyer that it is a good bike. Depending on $$, upgrading to 6 speed DT would make it a nice bike. Some Ross's used BMX sized stem, so check on that. Not worth a 9 speed upgrade IMHO.
