I've just purchased this bike, I was hoping someone on here could give me some info on what model it is and if its any good?

The bike is a Vitus, I know that much, originally it had the gears built into the brake levers, this has been removed recently. Im not sure how original the bike is and what year its from. On the frame there is a stamp- Vitus CLB and a serial number. Does anyone know what model it is and how much its worth. I've bought it in Dublin, Ireland.



It has this sticker on it but I dont think its original













As you can probably tell, I'm a nube to the bike world, any info would be greatly appreciated, cheers!

Depends. And I'm not seeing pics either. Sean Kelly rode Vitus bikes at one point in his career, so it may be worth a small bit more in Ireland. And many Vituses are worth less in larger sizes sizes. The bigger the bike, the whippier they are. See if you can get us some good pics, using a site like photobucket to host the pics.

Bonded aluminum and lugged "Ovoid frame" Vitus 992. It's the successor to the earlier more familiar/numerous 979 model.
The difference between the 979 and 992 is mostly on the head tube/headset design where they used an integrated headset where the races are installed in the frame ehad lug assmebly and the system is almost proprietary to the bike model. This limits your choices for headsets, but repelacment integrated headset parts that will work with this bike can still be found at eBay once in a while. Not sure, but there might also be a difference in the tubing alloy formula, thus the model designation of 992.
The BB shell on the 992 has a much different design than the 979s as it is shaped addressing aerodynamics. More of a sylistic change than a real performance difference.
The downtube shifters is original to the bike's design. Many upgraded later to indexed "brifter" (shifting on the brake lever) shifting.
It's a very nice bike if you are ready to deal with possible idiosycrasies that can come out of the headset design and if you make sure that you do not ride it too much in wet conditions as moisture is the worst enemy of bonded aluminum frames. You can usually buy one of these frames in very good used condition at ebay between $250 - $300ish, depending on time of the year and exposure to Vitus buyers.
A fully built bike in great condition and desirable components could pull in over $400+ easy.

Thanks a million for the info! I paid 500 euro for it, good used bikes seem to be crazy expensive in Ireland, Dublin anyway, so fairly happy with that, the bike rides perfect, feels brand new. Unfortunately the weather in Ireland is very rainy so the likelyhood of it getting wet is high, but I drive too so I'll try keep it dry.

The model was made from 1992 to appx 1997, I think. Supposed to be stiffer than the better-known 979 model.

Sean Kelly, the great Irish rider, rode Vitus 979s and 992s - might be fun to research him, you'll find plenty of Vitus references.

Careful with the seatpost screw (don't strip it), seatpost (unusual size), headset (grease/maintain it well, very hard to replace), derailleur hanger (replacements no longer available - though I had some made, if you ever need one). Dry it off after riding in the wet, for the reason chombi said.
