Schwinn Traveler - Help identifying year and worth

I just picked up this older Schwinn Traveler at a yard sale for $5. I'm really hoping to get into biking and figured maybe it would be a good starter. It's not in bad shape, but may need a little bit done to it to be road ready.

I've been trying to identify the year. I thought the two-tone paint would make it easy, but I can't find it anywhere. I'm going to post some pictures, can anyone identify the year?

Also, would this be a good starter bike? What all should I have done to it to make it road ready? The tires are flat and the guy said they may need new tubes as they only stay inflated for about a week. Anything else other than the tubes I should have done?

Any idea what this bike would be worth?

1989 Traveler. Bike will need the typical neglected service: bearings, grease, cables, housings, most likely tires and tubes. All those parts are 23 years old. Best to do this yourself, as the list I just mentioned would not be cheap at a shop.

Well, I'm 6'1 so it seems to fit pretty well.

I took it to a local bike shop and they put on new tires and tubes. They also straightened the derailler as it was a little bent. Took it out for a quick ride and it seemed to ride pretty nice. I've now got about $75 in it and it seems like it should be a pretty good bike for me. Not sure that it is any steal anymore now that I'm up to about $75, but it seems like maybe I could at least get my money back. Plus, I plan to keep it as my own bike to hopefully get into biking with.

Thanks for the help guys.

Unbelievable deal for $5. Hey, you could have spent $125 to $150 (probably what it's worth) for it and still have had to put new tires on it. At minimum, try to get some motor oil onto those bearings (head set, bottom bracket, hubs) ... drip it .... squirt it ...
