Any opinion about value of 1972 Peugeot DA 40 E

I found a couple of 40-year-old French Peugeot relics from 1972.

They BOTH have the scathingly brilliant French 36-spoke Rigida rims equipped with "Fichtel & Sachs Duomatic Torpedo" hubs with the kick-back gear selection.
The blue one is cleaned up & I'll start on the copper-coloured one tomorrow.

Is there any interest for this type of stuff among Peugeot collectors ??

Any idea of the possible monetary value of these things ??

They both ride nicely.

Folding bikes are generally not worth very much... but since these come from a popular brand and are in such nice condition they may actually be worth a little.

It's really hard to say though. A raleigh Twenty in the same condition would easily sell for $150. On the other hand I know somebody is trying to sell two beautiful Batavus folders and nobody bit at $100 each.

Thanks for that.

I'll move this over and ask on the < Folding Bikes > forum to see if the guys over there know whether these old guys are worth more than their parts.

It is possible that the relatively rare 36-spoke Fichtel & Sachs Duomatic Torpedos hubs on these bikes might generate some interest amongst a certain fringe element.

There is a used one on eBay now with a "Buy it Now" of $250. Weird !!

I have to agree with Mos6502. Small wheel bicycles, even folders, are not much sought after at the moment. I do expect that will change in the not so distant future. That said...

The bikes are stunning and certainly worth more than you will likely get for them at the moment. Were I you, I would tuck them away and wait for the market to present itself.

As for value, I have had such poor luck selling similar bicycles that I now give the away to Bicycles for Humanity. They have found a use for them but not in the usual sense.

I sold this lovely BSA for ten bucks (pooey). And I gave away two Raleigh folders and an Olmo, free of charge...

While folders have minimal value, Randy is hampered by a small local market, and the hurdle of shipping. Shipping bikes that might be only worth $100 to $150 at their destination just does not work. But if you have access to a larger, thriving, local market, then a folder that might only bring $10 plus shipping, might bring $100 to $150 on a local sale.

In a red hot, large, urban market, I can see it bringing more.

My mother has one of those in white that we bought in 1971 or so in Frankfurt, Germany. Not nearly as good condition. They are a lot of fun and actually useful. I wish I had hers hear locally. I bought the equivalent of an UO-8 too. Rode the bearings off it and sold it.
