Hi everyone,
Adrian here, first post. I'm looking for a nice used road bike, and saw this one for sale:

I was hoping someone who's familiar with these bikes could have a look at the ad and see if it's a 1000, or if not what it is, and let me know if you think it's worth $200 (cdn). I saw an older thread where someone had found a Miyata that was falsely advertised, so any help very much appreciated!

It's got turkey wing brake levers, probably a 90 or 310.

As near as I can tell, it might be a 310 from the mid 1980's. The shift levers on top of the down tube were only around for a couple years.

Hi guys, thanks a lot for the replies! Sorry for being in the wrong subforum - which one should I be in? Anyways, I'm going to check the bike out tomorrow. Hopefully I can learn sth. from the serial number.

FYI - the 1000 is a touring bike and would have cantilever brakes.


The bike pictured is an '84 110. Low end. Not worth $200, and IMO not even worth looking at: Heavy frame, 27" wheels, turkey wing levers, old tires need replacing, non-series components.

Seller is also full of ****, I'm willing to bet he tape over the OneTen decal so he can claim he thinks it's a 1000. There's no way that bike was $1000 brand new either.

60 cm. frame, top mounted DT shifters and Shimano Z series brake calipers lead me to believe it's either a 110 or 310 from '84 or '85.
The extension levers say 110, but the DT shifters say 310, and the 310's levers could also take extensions.

Hey, thanks for the extra info. Feeling less inclined towards that bike now...is fishy that there's a sticker right over the model number, didn't notice that before. Are the turkey wings hard to remove? I guess it might be worth it if I can talk him down...

Yeah definitely not a 1000. No tripple crank, no canti's, turkey levers, only one set of dropout brazeons, no rack mounts, etc. These are all things to look for when trying to determine if something is a touring bike. Unless it's a very old touring bike, in which case some of these facts change (mid-early 70s and older).

I'm from Paradise originally myself. The NL vintage bike market is pretty rare, here in Halifax it's a good bit better but not much. I would save the 200 and maybe check the classifieds section in this form or head to ebay. You could also keep an eye to the kijiji here, and if there is something you really like, I could possibly facilitate the sale.

Sweet, thanks for the reply. I might still look at the bike, as there are only 2 road bikes for sale in my price range, the other being an "Orions" from late 70's/early 80's, couldn't find any info about it:

That one is really low end. At $150 I'd run away. At least that seller is not quite as delusional as the seller of the Miyata.

These two bikes are also wildly different sizes. Google bike sizing, you NEED to figure out what size you need before you buy.

Ended up getting the bike for $170. It fit really well and seemed to work great, gears and brakes, etc., so bought it despite seller's b.s. There's not much here in St. John's and I wanted sth. right away. Meantime save up for a better bike! Cheers

BTW... if you haven't removed the stickers yet to find out what model it is... I'm quite certain that's a 1984 Miyata 110 in Ocean Blue... 1984 the 110 had downtube levers AND brake lever extensions...
