Looks to be a 1950s or late 40s Schwinn, obviously made before they ceased making bicycles for private labels. Does it have a serial number on it?

That locking fork is pretty awesome - and you have the key. Looks like a very interesting bike.

I'm guessing pre-war or early post-war.

Looking at the brazing of head tube to top tube and head tube to down tube, it's too rough to be electro-forged (the E-F "fillets" look much smoother). The serial number starts with an "I", which doesn't appear in the late forties (post '48) serial numbers on.

Very interesting bike.

Is there a tubing sticker on the seat tube down near the bottom bracket shell that looks like this?

Your best bet is E-bay or the Scwhinn forums, trying to sell it here without being a paid member will get your thread deleted.

Not a Schwinn looks to be some short higher end department store bike from the 50's or maybe 60's. While great collectors item these just asre not worth big money in realy nice condition $300-400 yours as only about $150.

It is a Schwinn. It was made by Schwinn in the 1718 N. Kildare factory for Chicago Cycle Supply Company, carried the Chicago Cycle "Lincoln" branding, and carried an Arnold, Schwinn & Co. guarantee. It's similar to the same vintage Schwinn "New World" models which also had fillet brazed frames using "the finest American seamless drawn steel tubing."

However you sell it you'll need to have a really good ad to get market value out of it. Most people don't know that much about bikes from this time period so you'll need to get as much info as you can about the bike first. Then take some GOOD pictures in a well lit outdoor area from the right side of the bike. The pictures you've posted so far help identify the bike but they are really poor quality for an ad.

If you sell on ebay you'll need a good seller reputation, if you don't have that already you'll have a hard time. Craigslist is the obvious option but there may not be as many people looking for a bike this old and it could sit a while before you find a buyer.

Good luck, it's a really cool old bike and I'm sure you'll find someone out there who will appreciate it. By the way where are you located?

As Scooper mentioned already, it is a Schwinn, there's a Schwinn badge on the seat tube and the large seat tube decal is also a Schwinn "Hat in the ring" decal.

Schwinn used that logo on bikes into the 60s but I think the Lincoln head badge makes it much older than that.

Considering the condition and the rarity of the bike, how much do you think I should get for it??

I don't think anybody knows, because it is so rare. Basically, they best way to find out is to put it on eBay with a high enough starting bid that you'd feel comfortable selling at that price, then see what happens.

Personally, I think this guy is asking at least $4,500 too much, but maybe some sucker will come along and have to have it.

BBC: Their pricing is always hilarious. And look at their completed auctions, they occasionally hook a fish, err, sell a bike. But most of the time, their super high priced stuff doesn't move.

Do not underestimate the importance of your marketing effort. Your ability to present the bike well, pack and ship, reputation on ebay as a seller, all enter into the process. Then you have the dreaded "ebay variance" where on some days items catch fire and go high, and a day later, they go low. Its really frustrating as a seller. Do your best marketing, then cross your fingers.

And we are talking full sized, hosted pics, not the small crappy ones usually found on C/L. Its part of the effort that goes into marketing a bike, and can make all the difference. I also use hosted pics on ebay as well. Ebay's pics are better than C/L, but still not up to the quality of full sized hosted pics. And don't direct buyers through another link to find your pics. Buyers are lazy.

Please don't confuse ebay "asking" prices with "selling" prices. Many sellers never get their ask price. some are far from it. Value is determined once an item actually SELLS. Its easy enough to check SOLD prices.

Well said, I completely agree. That being said, I want to avoid over-pricing. I am thinking of putting it up on CL or ebay starting price $800.00, do you feel that is a fair starting price or should I lower it and hope people see the ad?
