What is this worth? Vintage Raleigh Super Grand Prix on Craigslist.

What would this bike be worth? (https://charlestonwv.craigslist.org/bik/3217418401.html) It is listed on craigslist for $275 but I have been emailing the seller and they said they would go down to $150 but I am not sure if that is paying too much. The seller says it has all the original parts. This would be my first road bike and would mainly use it for light to moderate riding.

Not bad for $150, you better be a taller person.

Is it worth $150? Yes, between the leather saddle and bar end shifters, those are about $100 right there. The bigger question, is it a good deal for you? Doubtful. Bike needs a fair amount of work, and unless you have the time/tools/space/aptitude to do the work, you will be spending some serious $$ on it.

+1 That is a big bike.

I have one just like it, OK, it didn't have the leather saddle or the bar end shifters (I wish it had them), but otherwise, same color, model and size. Bought it as a donor. Wheels went on one bike. Raleigh pantographed cranks and derailleurs went on my Supercourse, miscellaneous clamps went into the bin, etc. Bought mine from a DKO flipper in Charlotte, $30 (it needed quite a bit of work, which I did not do, I just used the parts). Reminds me, the frameset needs to go to the co-op.

They had the yard stick up against the bike and I counted 23 inches which I used google to convert to 58.42cm. This site has your height and inseam gives you the cm for a bike frame. I'm around 5'9"-5'10" and have a 31.5" inseam. Would this bike fit?

Thank you. I wasn't sure if I had done correct measurements or not. I'm going to go check it out tomorrow afternoon. Could you guys tell me some things to inspect while looking it over and test riding it?

$150 is a really good price. I just turned this one over for $280 a couple of days ago.

.... the same bike in the same size with the bar-end shifters.

That yard stick looks like 34 inches, which is the standover. That would make it bigger than a 23 inch, and 2 1/2 inches more than your inseam.

+ 1 This bike looks to have about 24inch frame which may may it little to big for a you the standover does look about 33/34 which would make it an inch or so to big.

Would that be a problem while riding the bike? I am 15 and will probably grow some more and fit the frame soon?

Im 5'10 and ride a 55cm. Id say a 59cm frame would be too big for me.

Well, it's a good bike, but good for you? Probably not. Being that much taller than what you should be riding would be hazardous. I'd put it at 62cm +I think a 58cm would be ok.

I was reading online and I read that the inseam for the pants you wear is different than when measuring for a bike. Earlier I said I have a 31.5" inseam because I usually wear pants with a 31 or 32 inch inseam, but I just measured with a tape measure from the inside of the top of my thigh down to my foot and got a 33.5"-34" measurement. Am I measuring right?

Maybe :-). Depends on which guide you read. It does tend to be a greater distance than you pant inseam though. Best thing to do (if it isn't too far) is try the bike out. If you can ride it comfortably and straddle it when you have to stop at a light, you're fine. As others have said, that's a decent price if the bike fits and you like the feel.

Check a little further on the internet, it will tell you exactly how to measure.

"To determine your proper frame size, you'll first need to get an accurate inseam measurement . Stand with your back against a wall, your bare feet 6" apart on a hard floor, looking straight ahead. Place a book or carpenter's square between your legs with one edge against the wall, and pull it up firmly into your crotch, simulating the pressure of your saddle while riding. Have a helper measure from the top edge of the book to the floor, in centimeters. (You can convert inches to centimeters by multiplying inches by 2.54.) Repeat two or three times, for consistency, and average the results to get your inseam length."

zukahn1 is right, that's a 24" frame - I can tell just eyeballing it, but you can see on the yardstick that bottom bracket is approx. at 10" and top tube is at 34".

If you are about 6' it would be a comfortable size for you. 5' 9" I'd look for a size smaller, such as a 22.5" or 23".

The seller doesn't know too much about bikes what with the yardstick photo, so not the best source to buy from.

If it was a good bike at a good price it would be long gone by now. In the Twin Cities you need to be in contact with the seller within minutes for a good bike at a good price otherwise you will be too late. The bike you are looking at has been listed for almost a week.

Part of being supportive in Bikeforums, is paying attention to details. Like, this thread happened 6 years ago. Your comments have no bearing on what may or may not have happened, so no one's blocking anyone at present, which is where we are now.
