I just ran across this online. Is this anything significant?

Yes and No. It is a PDG or paramount Design Group bike. It is a bike designed by the group that would be responsable for designing a Paramount but it was built in Japan rather than Waterford like a real Paramount. It is still a nice bike but does not carry the same prestige as a 'real' Paramount

Series 2 was the lowest in the group, and i think it was made in China, while some of the higher ones were made by Panasonic in Japan. I've had two of those. Nice bikes, under equipped component wise.

Please don't confuse ebay "asking" prices with "selling" prices. Many sellers never get their ask price. some are far from it. Value is determined once an item actually SELLS. Its easy enough to check SOLD prices.

Bill has it exactly right.

The PDG Series 2 Paramount was the low end; it and the Series 3 were initially made on Taiwan by A-Pro, then production moved to mainland China.

The PDG Series 5 and Series 7 were both made by National/Panasonic in Japan.
