Well, I want to find the place for the Alpina Pro-Rx in the Univega mtb range in 1991 or, possibly, 1992. High or middle?

High in the Univega line. You have all the information in front of you: frame tubing (decal should describe), grade of components, weight.

Here in the "good ole US of A" {as Archie Bunker would say** the Aplina was Univegas upper end mountain bike (MTB) line and the Pro was usually the top dog. Does it have a suspension fork?
Used MTBs unles they are very high end well know brand like Fat Chance or Serotta generally have little resale value. If I came across one of these and needed I might pay $100-120.

I had this bike for awhile. It was probably right before they started putting a suspension fork on it but I don't know the year. It had the "bent chain stays". Some flavor of Tange tubing.
I set it up as a 1x7 since I wasn't going off road and didn't want a triple up front. Very nice ride.
I think I sold it for $150 since the wheels and tires were practically new, fresh cables and housing and tune up. That would be the high end of the market for this type of bike IMHO. As many people say, I should have kept it.

Univega called those stays "MaxMudroom" the idea was to increase the space in the stay/bb area to keep mud from building up but keep the wheel base the same. Kind of an upside down Nichiki Alein thing.

I tend to avoid older suspension fork mtbs. The forks on most of them were not that good, and after years of riding, they are often toast. A good replacement fork can cost as much as the bike is worth. Plus I am not that fond of suspension bikes anyway.

I have exactly the same bike in my basement and want to restore it back to its old glory kind of. Unfortunately I need to change the cassette as some of the sprockets are worn down, but I don't know which kind of cassette to buy. To convert it to a single ring at the front seems like a good idea, but what kind of ring do I need to buy? The old 3 rings are worn down as well. Also probably a new chain is necessary, can I buy any chain for it?
