Nice looking Cannondale. If it needs work and you don't know about fixing bikes, just sell it as-is for less money and let the next person fix it up.

I would say at least $150 as-is.

That is like 87/8 R400 maybe? The Suntour Alpha 3000 was bottom line accushift.

I agree, if you can't do the work, do your best to clean off as much dirt and grim as you can then just well it.

If it fits and you want to ride it, it is certainly worth investing $50 to 100 for a good tuneup and maybe some tires.

I was thinking despite how clean the bike looked it must be lower end for Cdale.. but I'm not exactly an expert of this particular brand. Glad to see I was right though, and OP either sell it as is, or fix it up for yourself like has been advised already.

I would agree $150-200 as is a very nice bike but with some big drawbacks. No one wants lesser accushift stuff and 80's Aluminium even the nice Canondales is a hard sell in most markets.

Actually SR400 in the 80's. Still a nice bike, worth getting & fixing up.

It's worth fixin', just not getting fixed! Looks like a worthwhile bike to learn bike repair with! Don't do any adjusting yet. Blow the dust off of it if you can...get on the 'net and look at the bike tutorials..pick a component...look it up, and see if it is something you want to do yourself...or...like I said, the bike looks pretty good. A lot of easy fixes for someone like me...maybe just bring it to your local bike shop and get an estimate to make it rideable...you don't need new bar tape and all...just some cables..might as well get them all changed...they will probably tune it at the same time, I bet the tires are good for one more season, too!...fit it to yourself and take it for a ride...you may want to hang on to it! Your price was right! $150./$200. spent to have a good all around bike! I know that I am somewhat all over the place...just a fun little bike for very little $! I have a bunch of these Cannondales so I have a soft spot for them!
Do you have another at this time? Maybe a diferent syle?

All the Cannondale racing bikes from that era shared the same frame. The only differences were in components.

OK, see below, if it is an ST400, they had a slightly different frame (not the racing frame).

So this bike has a really good frame, with mediocre components (indexed Suntour). And Cannondales are almost timeless. A 25 year old Cannondale looks like a modern bike, so it attracts buyers not interested in a vintage bike. I've always gotten strong response on Cannondales. I've got one in the disaster pile right now.

Yours is an ST400 built in 1987. 19" (maybe 21")frame size. Suntour Alpha3000 6 speed indexed shift system. 27" rims and tires.
These are great bikes. I have 4 in the 27" frame size and 2 in the 25" size.
One of my completely updated ST400's is my ride of choice for a pleasant day in the saddle.
Many smaller riders found the stiff (efficient) frame to be too "harsh" of a ride, more in the race models than the ST series, with their longer wheelbases and more relaxed angles.
The basic frameset is well setup for touring, with adequate eyelets front and rear for rack and fender mounting.
If that is your size, tune it up and ride it! It is a quality American made bike.
Due to its age, it may only fetch $200.00 or so on the market. However, the small frame size may have some demand.

My beater with "Blaze" components. Fast, tight handling, "pingy" bike! You can feel pebbles right through the handlebars! They "ping" if you catch them just right! Good fun!

I've got an '87 SR400, but my frame does not have those little tabs on the tops of the seat stays, which leads me to think you've got an ST, not an SR.

FWIW, the previous owner upgraded mine to Shimano 600 stuff (Ultegra before the name-change), and it's still a great ride today. It's 22 pounds, so not as light as my CAAD10, but it's super rigid and is rock solid when I stand up and crank.

Between the carbon-fiber seat post I added and the original, steel fork, the high-frequency buzz and tingle is not an issue. Sharp-edged bumps, however, will pop me out of the saddle or nearly knock my hands off the bar if I don't see it first and get my weight on the pedals!

Still, these are sweet bikes, and very fast even today.
