Miele Road Bike

I'm new to cycling and am looking for a bike to use in a triathlon this spring. Is this bike worth $325?

I've had a Miele and found it to be a solid bike. Mine had slightly higher end components and tubing, but that bike has great brakes and decent everything else. Value depends upon several factors, including local market. $325 might be a little high for your neck of the woods, but I could be wrong. Thrifty Bill would probably know.

Does it fit? That is paramount, especially if you are racing. Are you wanting to add aero bars? If so, you could move the shifters up to the bars to save from reaching down to the downtube.

Bottom line, the bike is decent but I wouldn't pay more than $250 for it. For just a bit more than the asking price you could score a late model Specialized or similar that might be more race worthy.

...^^^^ mostly what he said. $350 would be a premium price for a Cromor 105 bike here, and this is a high market (NorCal).

Miele made and sold a range of models in terms of quality, but really, for a beginner Tri bike it would work fine, just a little pricey.
You don't really need a lot for a Tri bike, because you're not in a pzck and you don't have to shift under pressure.

You'll probably be competing against guys with considerably lighter CF bikes, though, so I guess it depends on the length of the bike leg.

I agree with TugaDude the price just seems a bit high for level of that bike. Also since your new to the sport the first thing you should do after buying it is have a good tune up done.

I am pretty old school in bike sizing and there is no way a 5'11" person should be on a 55cm frame, they need closer to a 58 maybe even a 59. Do some research on sizing.

Who is getting you into this Tri thing? Are any of your friends or coworkers into cycling?

Beautiful Miele Road Bike - $325 (Columbia)

I am selling a gorgeous Canadian road bike. I am the second owner, and it is in excellent shape. Other than a very little scuff to the paint, it has very little wear and has only been ridden between 500-1000 miles. The original owner indicated it is a model from 1995, but I am not certain if that is correct.

It is hard to tell in the picture, but the paint job is beautiful. Since I bought it in May, I have added a new saddle, gum wall tires, bar tape, and chain.

Here are the specs:

- 55 cm Columbus Cromor Frame- I am 5'11 with a 32.5 inch inseam. Technically, it could fit someone between 5'8-6'1. It all depends on your inseam.
- 700c Ambrosio rims
- 23mm Panaracer Pasela Tour Guard Tires
- Shimano 105 FD
- Shimano RX100 RD
- Shimano RX100 brakes
- Shimano Exage 500EX crankset
- SRAM chain w/ master link
- Campagnolo Pedals w/ Christophe toe clips, new straps

*Indexed/Friction shifting

I agree that the Miele bike in question bike is most likely about a hundred bucks too expensive.
The basic Cromor tubing gives it sort of a Reynolds 501 tubing flavor, which was lower mid level in most manufacturer's model lineup from the mid 80's to early 90's.... and $225/250ish is pretty much the typical they go for in most markets these days.
If the bike is in mint NOS condition, it might attract enough attention to go for a bit higher, maybe $300 max for someone who has to have this particular bike....
BTW, I just noticed it's a 55cm size. It's in a really sweet spot when it comes to sizing because of the general big demand for this size bike, so the seller will get a lot more attention from buyers.... so I bump the estimate a bit more to a definite $250 and $275 an easy possiblity....

High for this time of year, but good solid bike. RX100 is not top of the line but very serviceable. I'd wait a week and offer 250 and go up to 275; 300 max.
