Trek 970 Found in Salvation Army store

This lovely bike is not my size, and I am considering selling it, but don't know what to ask for it. It is a 21.5 inch, in very very good condition. I must have been stored for a long time, without being ridden. The chainrings show no wear, nor does the free wheel. There is hardly any rust, only very superficial light stuff on the exposed cables. The only damage to the frame must have happened in the Salvation Army store where I found it. I do believe all the components are original, not top stuff. Deore XT. Still has Bioipace crank. I am including photos. THe wheels are perfect, bearings sound. Totally true. Photos below. Hope they help. I am in Santa Cruz, CA.

Sounds about right.

I love finding these old Treks at garage sales.

They make great cabin bikes and this one has loads of "fun" potential for the $$$.

I think oddjob's estimate is about right for your area, and you're lucky it wouldn't fetch anywhere near that high up here.

Nice bike. Pretty sure that has Deore stuff on it, not XT. The shifters are deore, the rear derailleur is silver not black and silver like an XT. Anyway, cool old Trek with a lugged frame. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of $$ in used mountain bikes. It looks like it'd make a killer drop bar conversion.

Thanks Oddjob $150 was my guess too.

Good point, I should keep it for my 6'4 brother who visits!

Nubra 02-02-14 12:42 AM

Right on. It is Deore equipped, not XT. Nice thought on the conversion. THanks for your response!

I own two of these, they are excellent frames. +1 on the drop bar conversion (you can see mine on that thread) +/- 25.00 is in the range. I had Altus on mine and it was fine for many miles. Green light.

Thanks Rider

Thanks a lot IknowURider. I am going to hang on to this for my brother when he visits. He is 6'4" and I have nothing in this size range. You guys are the best. Love the forum.
