753 Raleigh Team Pro from 1981 "Factory Fresh" ridden less that 5 miles

I am the original owner and I bought this 753 new as a backup bike. It has only been ridden about 5 miles and that has been just to keep it maintained.
It has been freshened up 2 years ago with new rubber all around including brakes and re true wheels. Its unique combination of components (Campy, shimano etc.) all original and top of the line to when it was built. Considering selling and wondering what a fair price would be. Feel free to request pics. Bike is immaculate. .

Also you need to detail what the components are, not just some Campy some Shimano.

JUSt because I am grumpy this morning - I have been wondering what the hell a "factory Fresh" bike is, and why has it not gotten stale after so many years? and what the hell does freshened up mean? If I took my bike to a shop and asked them to freshen it jp they would laugh me out the door, or spray on some room deodorizer and say its "fresh"

You need to use a photo hosting site like Photobucket. Download your photos there and then link the IMG file to your post.

Just curious - if it was ridden for <5 miles why did wheels need to be trued? And would love to see pictures of course.

Remember - you asked.

I'm pretty sure I saw this being sold on the SBDU forum - since you asked, you're asking price is outrageous and this will sit. In fact the asking price is so outrageous that it will cost you potential buyers who simply won't want to deal with you.

What you call a unique combination of parts is quite a euphemism. Here's another description - a less valuable parts Frankenstein.

Your photos are inadequate to sell a high end bike and you might think that your salesmanship is helping, but it's not. The buyer of this bike knows what it is and they know when you're putting a bow on a pig. Your description is hurting, not helping.

My estimate of full eBay value is a $1200 sale IF YOU TAKE DECENT PHOTOS. You will net around 1000. My estimate on the CR list is 900ish.

As a reference point - this one is more valuable and nicer than yours from what I can see - WITH QUALITY PHOTOS. I would expect it to sell from between 1500-1700.

+1000 We need photos to assess the components and condition. Google "how to post pictures on Bike Forums" I'm sure it's been covered a thousand times.

Basically when you're replying you need to click the little box up by the font that says "Insert Image" and has a picture of a tree in a square frame.

We do rearly need to see pics on this one. The description and details don't seem to match up with known bikes. Plus the somewhat iffy legend of the bike does nothing to help when it comes to value. On this level bike serius buyers will be looking at acttual condition and components and won't care much about the op's stories true are not.

How nice.
When you've loaded the Leica for the obligatory drive-side cheese-cake pics please get a nice clear snap of the serial number as well.

Would appear that Weese has been discouraged from advise on selling/pricing a factory fresh frankenbike by the cynics of the forum.

Aside from retruing the wheels after 5 miles (normally like 50-100 mile thing) who has/had money to buy a "back up" bike festooned with Campagnolo and shipmano and never ride it?

Off and on I have considered one of these, early last year there was one from Colorado on the 'bay that had a buy it now for $2K or a bit over that, maybe I was figuring in his shipping to $2,150. It sat. It did not sell and looked in nicer shape than the above link, just a bit smaller at 55 cm. A typically popular size.

Size matters. True, some of these bikes were sold as frame sets. In team use they were full Campagnolo, so that is what is expected.
This is from a period where Shimano was barely in the pro peloton.

Maybe the choice of words, but "factory fresh" would mean PERFECT to me. If rubber parts had been replaced they should be NOS units and the bike should appear still perfect. The statement of a minor wheel true and only 5 miles of riding would indicate a bad wheel build or a really negligent first five miles.

I've wanted one too - I love the color combo. I've come close to pulling the trigger a few times, but it's never worked out. I'd potentially be a player on the one above, but this isn't the time to be spending money...I just hope I don't have to sell some of what I do have.

I know what you mean, sometimes a good deal even cannot be exploited. The realtor just called, might be time to liquidate a few if that second house comes to pass.

Raleigh SBDU (Ilkeston) 753 framesets can fetch $700 if clean and original, so $1200+ is not unreasonable for the complete bike in excellent condition with mostly or entirely Super Record.

At the same time, a buyer will need good pictures and information. Verifying that it is actually a 753 frameset and not a 531 frameset requires carefully measuring the tube diameters, seeing drilled dropouts, or - best of all - weighing the bare frame. You'd also need to be confident it was original paint rather than a respray, meaning more detailed pictures. And condition needs to be pretty much perfect. Obviously the bottom bracket serial number has to be shown.

I agree the flowery language is unneccessary. Buyers for this sort of bike know exactly what they are looking for.
