If you have the time/tools/aptitude/space/pile of parts, you bet. If not, the new FG/SS on the internet are a much better deal. Basically, the internet brands have just about killed the vintage bike conversions. Does yours have alloy wheels? IF not, forget it (specs on the Sport varied over the years).

I have a Nishiki Custom Sport from the early 80's. It has a nice chromo frame and a nice Sugino GS crankset. It also had alloy wheels, but they were trashed. The cranks and frame were worth (to me) what I paid.
Can you post some pics...........it would really help in determining if it's worth rebuilding/upgrading.

Plus all internet brand cheap FG/SS look bland and same and where is the fun of doing first conversion yourself?
At least in US you guys have bikesdirect which makes OK first FG/SS (shipping to Canada is expensive and while you can ship to warehouse just across the border - downtown crowd usually carless and want their bike now)
