I bought a bike like that some months ago for $60. In bad shape; tires flat, rust spots on frame, cables worn, FD trashed. I turned it into a project. Took a couple dozen photos as I disassembled it. Sent the frame off for new paint, then ordered up new cables, a new FD, new bearings, brake pads etc. While it was at the paint shop, I cleaned and inspected every remaining piece; crank, wheels, bars, shifters, derailleur.
It was a fun project, I learned a lot, and the bike has become a reliable and attractive "keeper" that draws admirers and comments at the local coffee shop.
Have fun with yours. DB
