My local Craigslist is usually just a collection of X-mart bikes, but this old Peugeot showed up today. I can tell it's a '70s bike by the decals, but was wondering if someone had a keen enough eye to discern what model it might be from the one picture posted.

It's a Peugeot UO-8 from the visible equipment and the half chrome fork.

Whst are they asking for it? Appears to have Simplex QR skewers. $60-70 right there.

Very clean bike. Lots of potential value in parts, if wanting to separate. Not recommending, just saying.

Thanks, guys. I was thinking UO8 with the stem shifters and all, but I'm by no means a Peugeot expert which is why I came here for advice.

The asking price is less than big chainring's estimation of the skewers' value. From the pic, it looks like it might be my size, which conveniently, is also my fiancée's size. Assuming it's not too far from being road ready, it might be a nice way to get a comfortable road bike under her so we can ride together sometime. And if she's not interested, I'm generally a sucker for classics (bikes and otherwise) and would appreciate it myself.

I'm planning to take a look at it tomorrow and will let you guys know how it goes.

So I took her home for $40, and here she is. The frame and forks are in really nice shape and are exactly my size. Just a few small spots of surface rust inside of paint chips. The hubs, cranks, headset, freewheel, brake levers, and calipers seem to be in good working order. That's the good news. Just about everything else is going to need attention, though. The rear rim is bent, various plastic bits are obviously past their shelf date (so I won't trust the derailleurs), the saddle's beyond repair, I should probably replace the "death stem", and well, all the other stuff that gives a classic bike its charm.

Good economic decision? Probably not. But who cares -- it'll be fun.

Feel free to suggest functional repairs/upgrades/replacements or point out any pitfalls I should be aware of.

Best wishes with your new acquisition. She appears to be a lateish boomer from about 1974. It is somewhat unusual to find them where they are this original.

Only the saddle appears a bit non-stock. It is possible that it is the original ADGA28A which has been "swallowized" at some point. Frame size may be 54cm c-t-t; what was sold as a nominal "21" " back in the day....

She looks like she has never been "worked on" which is a definite plus. Showing the benefit of all indoor storage as well.

No shortage of help available from the assembled here should you require it.

Try your local bike coop. I know they're in Rochester, Ithaca, Troy, but don't know about the rest of upstate NY. There aren't any in the ADK, Saratoga, or Plattsburgh.

Could you take a picture of the QR skewers and post it. If they are Simplex I'd trade you some skewers and whatever parts you might be looking for. Have some SunTour ARX derailleurs, barend shifters, etc.

They're Simplex. Not exactly "new old stock", but they look like they'll clean up really nice. If you're interested in them, send me a message. Sounds like you've got some parts I could use to get this thing on the road.
