Carbon Fiber Giant Cadex CFR3

So I posted this in the eBay / Craigslist finds thread a couple days ago. Price dropped to from $300 to $250 on day one, and now it's down to $125. This leads me to suspect there's something really wrong with this bike, albeit the description stating it's in excellent condition. Size is prefect for me & am considering going to take a look. Read on some other threads/forums that one thing to look at is where the tubes are connected, as they were glued when the frame was built. Am I correct in this? Ad doesn't mention the type of components on the bike, but for a buck & a quarter feel that if the frame is solid the price is well worth it.

At $125 , I would guess that either there is a problem with the shifters , or the frame . ( Or both )

Individual selling it reiterated to me that there are no probs, and the bike has been well maintained, being hung up when not in use. Seller received the bike from her brother. Think I've been scooped though, as someone is looking at it prior to me.

Add/edit: Yup, beat out by a few minutes.

Looks to be a nice bargain for 125 bucks! Even at $250, it could have been a great buy, IMO, if it was in great shape
As a later CF design from the early late 80's/early 90's a lot of the earlier CF bike design "bugs" were avoided on this bike, and a lot of concern about joint bond separation was pretty much gone by then.
I especially like the unique at that time, wishbone rear stay design that makes this bike even more attractive to many.
It's unfortunate that you waited just a bit too long to try and snag this one, but its a common thing to go through as a C&Ver..
One would later develop the right instincts to successfully snag mice bikes like this one.
If you like this particular bike a lot, just wait a bit and another one should pop up soon. Just don't hesitate and wait too long as there's a lot out there looking for nice C&V bikes like this one, especially now that the new riding season had started

Seller was probably just trying to get rid of it. My advice (for next time) is that you need to JUMP at a great deal like this. Go look at the bike ASAP, if there's something wrong with it then adjust your offer based on that. Waiting won't get you anything.

Thanks for the advice! got beat on a Specialized Allez ($150 for it) some time back as well. I'm not that bike-savvy, but some things just immediately say "text 'em now!"

I still have the same bike, which I bought new in 1996 for $1100 tax included (I guess it had been sitting in the store for a couple of years). It's a good bike, but having an 8 speed cluster made finding reasonable priced parts a bit of a problem for a while. I enjoy my Ridley a lot more to be honest and it didn't cost much more.

At $125.00 it would be one very good deal if it passed an in-person inspection and you like down tube shifters. The bike is very well equipped and rides great. I bought a 1993 CFR-3 in 1995 through a local dealer called Cycle Recycle. Now closed the business bought manufacturer bicycle closeouts. At the time I had a CFR-1, CFR-3 and ALR-2 to choose from.

I think a lot of buyers don't know what to make of these there not a classic vintage bike but not quit fully modern older style dt shifters and brakes. These are the type bike that can turn out to be a real bargain while buyers are looking for vintage lugged steel or modern STI stuff these often get overlooked. This one with STI's looks to have been a bargain at $125 unless both the frame and parts where screwed up which is very doubtfull.

The very small frame size must be one of the reasons' it did not sell at the original asking price, but at $125, It's weird that nobody's snapped it up yet.
