restore it original or upgrade

right now this is my newly aquirred 1979 letour schwinn the bike was painted over three times and after finding the frosty blue original coat and ruining it... Should I restore this bike with the original parts and leave it as its heavy self that was rugged and classic or my idea is getting parts from that year and then newer wheelset that still looks older, and making it a fairly modest roadster, I don't mean full super record I was thinking either 7200 dura ace or time equal superbe and newish wheelset (might have to build for what i want) and some mountable shift levers or barcons. also its clear coated on the steel after being steel brushed, is it worth it to go back to original color or does it not make much of a difference,) I know the 1970 late model schwinns were the last of there kind but I don't know if there are tons of them around and one brown or yellow one that was blue wouldnt make a difference. Right now I had to strip it and am using it on the indoor track for training so there is nothing but the original parts and ofmega skewers for some reason. Lets hear both sides of the story, If I make it a single speed or restore it with some nice vintage parts of the late 70's early 80's or go back to the shimano 400s that were on it, to me the way this bike was when i got it its a clean slate but after finding out how much history these had I hate to be that guy who ruins one that could have been saved.
thanks
ED

A early lugged frame Le tour not a lot of collectors value, but a bike with a lot of potential so build it up however you see fit.

Whatever your heart desires and wallet allows. Why buy parts when whole Le Tours are widely available for $30-$100? I paid $65 for a Mixte and sold the light off it for $30.00. Paid $10 for the blue Super Le Tour.

Neither. Sell it off as a single speed, and start with some other original frame. This one was never anything special, and it has no connection to you other than a brief period of ownership. Let it go and let it alone.
