91 - 93 Masi Team 3v Frame value?
Hi vintage bikers I have come to the bike forums for your years of experience with Masi frames!
Just the other day I picked this sweet bicycle out at a local goodwill for a cool $53.00. YES, $53.
It still has its campy chourus drive train and wheel set complete, the bar appears to be original. It does have campy carbon STI shifters I believe they are from 1997.
Anyways what would you appraise this classic 90s racer at? It's in good condition with small chips in the frame here and there. Still rides stiff, and shifts great!
Finally what year is this bike?
Thanks and here is the photo bucket link
Between the OPs and the smaller CL one - what is it with all the extra stickers on these bikes? Did they come that way?
Yeah that's why I originally thought the bicycle was a trash frame, upon inspection of campy parts I then purchased without thinking twice.
Turns out those brands are powder coated into the frame. Not even stickers, great quality paint though even if it looks like a hippie bike lol!

photobucket is now so bad I can hardly see anything beyond the thumbnails.
It is a genuine bike I think. Those top tube graphics are transfers and under the clear coat.
Often these bikes were called the "purple people eaters" and have a following.
The graphics were a team thing that spilled to the production frames to enhance the marketing... "I have a team bike..."
Probably made in Italy by a Masi USA contractor, painted in the USA, only thing it has to do with Masi of the Vigorelli is they got some royalties out of it.
I have two 3V's. I like them very much, the oversized tubes which include the chain stays being oversized do help stiffness and due to the light ga. tubing are not overly harsh. My Tesch S-22 gets the harsh steel rear triangle award. But that is a Criterium Monster.
Value... really really depends on condition, better the paint and ding free examples get more. $400 probably for the frame set.

Bikes: No-name LH drive track. Also ride an Exxon Graftek, a Masi, a Trek R200 or a RR Boneshaker for fun!

It's genuine. HOLY. COW. $53. HOLY. COW. Masi did do the design work on these, if not the actual frame-builds.

That production run WAS in 91/92. A slammed together "Masi" sans detailed/fined work with a funky non Masi fork and the vomit purple production color. The promo project was in Masi's sunset days and the sponsors picked up the tab just to have their trademark logos bastardize the TT. Not surprised that it was built up with the "gynecologist" rigging................ But, for $53,00 this was a great buy.
What more do you want to know?

Not shy about expressing an opinion on the color.
Actually while it is a color that invites opinions, as a marketing tool it was a reasonable choice, distinct, to be identifiable without reading the graphics.
An old strategy with race cars that works.
