48cm vintage treks, hard to sell?
General experiences selling 48cm treks or other similar lugged, are they discounted vs larger frames? Great looking '86 48cm trek locally at good price but even at 100+- buy the resell may be limited by small size. May pick it up anyway, what is avg height of 48cm rider?

48 cm for 5'4" or less. @wrk101 loves to sell small framed bikes in Hootersville, but the market sucks here in Michigan for them. I would think if you are in an urban area heavily populated with Asians, like Vancouver, Toronto, SF or NYC, a small frame bike would sell pretty quickly. But that's not the case in Michigan.
It took a long time to sell a 49cm Peloton frameset in ebay, and I have a Trek 510 currently listed.

hey thanks, looking closer this one may be 46cm compared to 48cm I was checking images of, did not even know they made them that small. What do you think?

I've been trying to move a 531 Trek 560 for some time now @ $150 F/F 48 cm
I sold a 48cm 420 2 years for $100 and it went quickly despite the fact that it was TruTemper

I have found that small and XL frames show a lot more variability...sometimes they sell faster for more, other times they sell slower for less...52 to 60 seems to be less variable (but, with a lot more people in that range, the lack of variability makes sense).

Can't find enough of them here. Had a buyer drive 3 hours one way to pick up my last 46 cm Trek (18 inch frame size). They bring a hefty premium as well.
Demand exceeds supply. The opposite is the case for XL sized bikes (sell at a discount, supply exceeds demand). I've got two Centurion Ironmans right now, a 48cm and a 63cm. Big difference in value.
Every market is different!

It is a 46cm. According to VT there were eighty 46cm 500 tri series made in 1986. This one is pristine so pretty tempted to pick it up. Only one recent sale on ebay for 46, went for 82 but had super high shipping @ 168.

I have had no problem selling smaller bikes without discounts around where I live. Plenty of shorter females that want a vintage steel bike.
