TREK 470, how old is this bike and what category does it fall into..
hello i bought this TREK 470 to resell to earn some money for spares for the my antique bikes. i am in south africa and waiting for info on the Trek which is not forth coming so please help me. is this bike of any heritage and value to a collector. i personally think its a beauty better looking than the Torelli i also bought. i will post that later. what i paid for these was a decent price for fine pieces of engineering with; im hoping; a potential extra value to collectors or brand faithful. i would like to do research on this bike, ive just started digging and it seems as it is not a bottom of the pit item, PLEASE GIVE ME MORE INFO, so i can start building a profile on the bike, its history, construction process, race heritage and status, if any. could the bike be parted out, is that a silly idea, what are the rims. Cool thanks
Judging by the Decals and the head tube badge, you have a 470 frame set from the early 2000's, manufactured by Trek as a Warranty Replacement frame set. It looks as if the frame was built up with a mixture of older parts (CLB brakes, Mavic 192 clincher rims, etc.) ranging anywhere from the 70's to mid 80's, and newer drive train parts.
Unfortunately, not really 'classic/ vintage' in the true sense of the term. She's sort of a more recent interloper who's trying to crash the C & V dance.

is it worth parting it out. are those older parts sort after in antway, are the rims worth anything.
To be honest, not really... the rims were at the low end of Mavic's Product Line. Their worth is based more on their mechanical condition.
You're better off selling the bike as a whole, and taking whatever you can get for it on the Used market.
In any event, the bike as shown would be worth $150-$200 in the USA as pictured. As it is low end at $669 when new, fairly new, lacks original parts, and is not a high spec frame tube set, it is not considered a collectors bike.
