Greetings: any thoughts about the following?
1973 Raleigh Competition (basically stock bike) with Huret Jubilee Gruppo, Weinmann centerpulls (drilled), large flange Jubilee hubs, Reynolds 531 dbl butted frame/fork with forged Huret dropouts. Tubular rims.
1974 Supercourse TT. Reynolds 531 straight gage tubes, Huret hubs, Weinman centerpulls. This bike has BSC threaded BB not proprietary Raleigh threading. Tubular rims.
Both bikes in "good" condition and rideable as is.

Assuming reasonably equal condition, and they both fit you equally well, the double-butted frame of the Competition will be somewhat more responsive and lighter (less than 1/2 pound, though). What's the cost differential? I'd personally pay something in the neighborhood of $150 more for the Competition and the double-butted frame, all else being equal, assuming this is going to be a frequent rider, not a garage queen.

Any difference in gearing? Competitions generally came with a pretty narrow range racing cluster, whereas the Super Course probably had a noticeably lower gear, that you might appreciate. I suspect you'll want to change out the freewheel on the Competition (personally, I'd put clinchers on either one - but that's me).

Even without photos, I can tell you to ignore that $150 estimate as not being within ball park for the competition individually, let alone with the Supercourse.

Perhaps that person would only pay that, but there are many people who would likely pay far more even in mediocre condition. I'm not sure how it's at all useful to tell someone the low dollar offer they'd make.

I can give you more accurate estimates with photos, but in a decent market, in decent condition, the competition is worth around 275 - 325 and the Supercourse around 175 - 250.

I don't think it's particularly useful either, but that was basically the question that was asked, by someone trying to decide between them, while providing very little more information on how the bike would eventually be used. Personally, I would have no use for a Super Course TT, and would only buy one if it were cheap, to flip it or give it to someone. OTOH, were I to come across a Competition, in my size and in good condition, at a fair price I would possibly be interested in buying one for my own purposes. I've seen them around for prices in the $400-600 range. But I'm not jonesing for one in particular, and I would only value it with respect to what other comparable steel classic bike I could get for a comparable price, and plenty of comparable bikes could be had for $500 or so here in SoCal.

It's a probably a fair comment that the Competition is probably worth more than a $150 adder compared to a Super Course TT. It's certainly a far scarcer bike. My comment stems from my own experience looking at them new some 35-40 years ago, where I vaguely recall that a Competition was a $450 or so bike, a Super Course was a $225 bike and a Super Course TT was maybe $50-75 more than the standard Super Course.

...are you certain that the tubular tires on both these are rideable ? Certainly this is not impossible, but my experience with bikes of this age with tubular rims and tires has been that they often have been sitting in a corner for quite a while and the tires are pretty well beyond practical use. Decent tubular tires and rims that are usable is quite the exception, and would indicate that the bikes might be in good overall condition.........which bumps the price a little, at least around here.

But it's very hard to give a guess for value without some sort of pictures. Paint/decals/condition affect the value so much as to make guesses meaningless.

If it helps any I picked up a Super Course TT in nice condition albeit with some paint imperfections in spots for $150. It does need a cleaning and some minimal work. The original FD and DT shifters had been swapped for Suntour components by the PO. However I do intend on getting rid of the tubular wheelset for clinchers. Would anyone have a need for the Mavic tubulars since I have no use for them?

I like tubulars and would be interested. I have a couple of competitions and a couple of supercourse mkII's but not a tt.
