FUNK/Unknown frame with components

I will try to tip toe through the minefield and not set off any kabooms!

like to get whatever feedback I can receive about estimates if valuation of this frame and components. Pictures show a lot, and can provide additional details.

I believe its from the early to mid ‘90s. Aluminum. No serial number found. About 48.5 cm seat post to center crank. assuming MTB frame.

thx for any input.

The bike looks less than 10 years old. The company only started in about 2001

I'd guess approx 20 years old. QR wheels were pretty much extinct on high end MTBs by 2013.

Funk's been around since the early '90s, IIRC.

Since it is a Fat tire frame with fairly modern disc brake set, carbon fork and looks to be intended for a 1x10 or 1x11 gearing I would say 10years old or so.. Really nice frame set I would guess $300 or so value as is. What will hold value down on this one is it is going to cost someone a lot to build it up right probably $1000 or more.

It does look a lot like there Uemura 177 in which case it' could be Titanium so could be worth a fairly good price to the right buyer. One could likely contact Funk Cycles to get some more info on the bike there a fairly small custom builder based in Colorado so there's a good chance of getting fairly specific info on this frameset I doubt they have sold a lot frame sets with custom robins egg blue paint and can likely ID this specific frame set.

Welds look like aluminum.
No slider dropouts so not a recent Uemura.

I think those brakes are from 2008-2010 ish. That could be the approximate age of the frame also?

There are multiple threads on this bike. And the OP did have contact with one of the Funk family and didn't get any satisfaction.
Seems weird given the interesting bends, the depressions in the chainstays, etc. They are certainly identifiers, I would think, especially if the company only made 100 or so, over the years they used aluminum.

Bottom line is it is a decent frame, nothing special, and knowing more about it is of limited value. At least so far as increasing potential value. My opinion, YMMV.

Here's a supposed 2016 Ti. Hooded dropouts, cables run below the stays, seat stay bridge and chainstay bridge. Looks like the same fork and those are pretty light, supposedly just a pound and a quarter.

https://m.pinkbike.com/buysell/2281635/

I think the main things a prospective buyer would want to know are:

OLD, front dropout spacing, front brake offset (front brake offset or rear brake offset), seatpost size, max tire width 26x4? 26x5"?

Hard guess from photos but I would say 4-4.45 tires wheels with 1.77 spaced rear with a 150 front

thx for the comments so far. it has been a challenge for me to figure this frame out. at first i thought the obvious, that it belonged to Funk. that is not certain. they thought someone "professionally" applied their decals to that bike, though i have never come across that badge. maybe someone at that company did it as a personal project and slapped the decals on it. its interesting to here some eyeing identifying traits. maybe that will reveal an origin.

on the valuation side, without pedigree, it will be hard to figure out outside of a base value.

Did a little FB digging. Feb 3, 2014 Funk posted this pic and said "Limited Run Aluminum Fatty". Unfortunately no pic of headbadge. Seatstays are welded to the toptube instead of the seattube, but same seatclamp slot style, similar rear cable runs, BB yoke, square tubed chainstays...

Still surprised by the QR axles in 2014, I guess those lasted longer in the fatbike realm than they did in the highend MTB realm.

The Fork is also a bit of a question since the big carbon forks didn't really come out till 2014/2015 my finale good guess 2015. Also I didn't say it earlier but I will know the bike has nearly every sign of being a stolen stripped so the one fairly sale price 9 out of ten bike dudes would pass.

There's a review for the O'Beast carbon fork in 2012:

One possible scenario is this could be an early example of the limited run aluminum fatties. They didn't like how the seatstays came out on this sample, so for the actual run, started welding the seatstays to the top tube instead of seattube.

funny, someone mentioned the “stolen, stripped” idea in one of my other threads. I find that unlikely. This was pulled off of my towns metal pile, along with a nice Klein frame (see other valuation thread pics), and several forks. A lot of quality stuff shows up there of all kinds. I think it was just discarded. Could have been a storage clean out, tenant turnover, parents dumping kids projects.

my seat tube appears taller, and the top tube is horizontal rather than sloped. What category would this frame be in?

It would be the same FAT tire frame limited edition. The differences are because the red example is much smaller size so the difference.

Your TT is not horizontal. If it was, the line from front dropouts to rear dropouts in this pic would be horizontal. Like zukahn1 noted, just a slightly larger frame than the red one.
