WTB: Campy NR brake calipers

Looking for a pair of NR brake calipers. Nutted mounting, not recessed, rider quality. Not interested in show pieces. PM me or post here if you have a set.

By "rider quality" , may I assume you are looking for a set that is "affordable" ? Standard or short reach?

I have some but I probably can't help, depending on your budget. Mine would not be cheap, I'm afraid, if that's what you're looking for.

If I wanted modern dual pivots, I would just reach in the parts bin and grab a set. For my current project I would like something other than show pieces. As for not wanting to pay EBay prices, your incorrect. I have no issues paying for what I'm looking for. I just try to avoid EBay as often as I can. Thanks for implying I'm a cheapskate though.
If the prevailing attitude is that anyone posting here is always bargain hunting, perhaps I'll just hit EBay.

I've gotten some old Campy bits recently on FB groups from European sellers. However, a word of caution on FB transactions cause you have no real recourse if you don't like what you get. I think I still prefer eBay, even if you have to pay a bit more.

Easy now, Nesteel. It's just that, for me, your criteria, "rider quality…not interested in show pieces" were kind of cryptic. Hard to decipher just what that meant. But to some, myself included, it might lead one to believe you may not be willing to spend much on them. But those two criteria were slightly subjective. Apologies if anything I posted made you think I was inferring you were a cheapskate. Not intended, if so.

These brakes are always so exorbitantly priced on ebay. Too high, I think. Priced high even without the absolutely necessary brake shoes and barrel adjusters. Silly. Kind of useless without them and retro-fits just don't cut it, for me. But they are in demand, I guess. They're the best, most beautiful side pulls ever made, IMO.

Good luck in your quest.

I can say nesteel is not even close to being cheap. He paid me a little over my asking just to be sure all fees had been covered. Stand up guy.

Unless you actually need to stop. Back in the 80s I rode bikes with all Campy Record but used Modolo for brakes. And then when Dura Ace 7400 came out it was all over. But I do admit they look good.

What might help in instances such as this (to avoid confusion, etc.) might be to throw a bone and suggest a high-water mark as regards price willing to pay. Then, if someone here thinks that sounds a fair price, they could then contact the OP and work the deal.

Myself, I've held off numerous times recently in answering some WTBs that I could've helped with simply because I didn't have a warm fuzzy about getting a price we'd both be happy with. Not so much based upon the who was asking but upon a couple recent price-quotes I made which were rejected out of hand as too fanciful Easier to simply list at an asking price if I want to get rid of something.

My .02, and, as always, others may disagree

Let's see if I can take care of this in one post:
#1 ) Did not mean to come off as gruff and grumpy. My apologies to all offended.
#2 ) Condition; mild scuffs, scratches, very mild surface rust/pitting on plated parts are all fine. I don't want something I'd be afraid of scratching. The bike has some "patina", I'd like the parts to also. No missing parts as I do not have spares, nor do I want to chase them down.
#3 ) Price point; $75 is the budget. It is what it is. If I'm being fanciful, someone just tell me I'm nuts and I'll just settle for the Galli brakes the bike currently wears. I feel that could get a pair that don't look like they were dragged off the bottom of a lake and used as a dog toy.
#4 ) Standard or short reach should work. The brakes on it now measure 37 to the top of the slot, and the front pads are almost all the way up.

I Have a pair that I am reluctant to part with. Qualify completely with the OP's request but they were given to me by a friend who had them on the Gitane he raced as a junior. He was in a car accident that ended his racing ambitions. (The ironic part is that the car accident probably saved his life and continued racing would probably have ended it. Marfan Syndrome. He lost two brothers to it.) I used them for two years on a Japanese race bike that I forced into commuter mode so the brakes are a little scarred from the realities of two Portland winters. I survived with no brake related crashes but more that a couple of heart stopping incidents. Won't go onto any bike of mine that even might see water. (Those brakes make the Diacompe GranCompes on my '76 Fuji Professional look really good; for both stopping power and modulation.)

nesteel, $75 is a fair price but I won't sell because of the history behind the pair. I hope you find a pair.

I think that sounds like good practice and policy, D.D. In retrospect, I think I shoulda just kept my mouth shut.

Of course you haven't minded their stopping power. I mean, what is the highest elevation on Cape Cod, about 20 feet?

My experience with them has been that a great deal depends on the pads and the levers. I found that NR calipers with Mathauser/Kool Stop pads and modern Campy brifters work pretty well, but Tektrp 539's with the same levers and stock pads work noticeably better. NR calipers with Mathauser/Kool Stop pads and old Universal levers don't work nearly so well. The next iteration will be NR calipers + Mathauser/Kool Stops + Campy NR levers. I kind of doubt the NR levers will make the set-up work up to dual-pivot standards. They will look awfully cool, though.

Hehe . But actually, I've only done about one percent of my total riding here. Most of it was up and down the Rockies outside Salt Lake City. Of course, I had to drag my feet Flintstone style too....

P.s. I found out recently my house is 95 feet above sea level. I'll have ocean front property if I can last long enough. Wink....

Yeah, those rides will test the abilities of one's brakes.

And I have actually had to drag my feet, Flintstones-style, to stop a bike. Too involved to explain in detail now; suffice to say it involved me captaining a tandem, a 17% or so start to a ten mile descent, a front tire blow-out, front and rear cantilever brakes controlled by a single lever (that has since been remedied, and I will never do that again) which means you can't use either brake in that situation, a stoker who had the good sense not to try to "help," and a healthy dose of luck. I still don't know how I kept us from either crashing or going over a not-insubstantial drop-off.

I do know that literal foot-dragging was involved. I do not know how I made it through without soiling my bibs. Not an experience I'd recommend or care to repeat, thank you very much.

Ye gawds. I was only joking about the foot dragging of course. Only drag my feet now when the wife asks me to vacuum the house.
Though I did melt my rim cement coming down Big Cottonwood canyon one time. Dodged a bullet on that one. Scary.

...have I derailed this thread enough? Yes.

Did that one, too, many moons ago coming down Gibralter Road above Santa Barbara. Nothing quite like looking down at your front tubular and seeing that you are riding on the sidewall at 35+mph to get the adrenaline flowing.
