Cannondale ST series. Fantastic sport tourers, I absolutely love mine. Low 20s wouldn't be a problem either. And some years had cantilevers.
edit: Just saw you bought a Sequoia. Good choice, post pics when you're done.

Excellent choice! I bought an '82 Sequoia frame in the spring and had it built up for commuting. It is a really nice riding bike. Not particularly light weight by today's standards but probably was for that time period. I wanted to be able to run tires at least 32 mm wide on occasion, so I hunted down some old Suntour Superbe brakes, which provide maximum clearance. I'm really enjoying this bike and recently took it on a 360-mile hub-and-spoke tour in Wisconsin. I brought two wheelsets with me, one with 25 mm tires for the road and one with 32 mm cross tires for the rail trails.

Still in transit, @tarwheel, and likely a winter project, as I'm still collecting parts, but here's a little teaser.
Crankset and wheels as yet undecided. Likely triple and 650b.

Our frames looks like twins, except yours might be one size smaller. Mine measures 58 cm center-center for the seat tube and 56 cm for the top tube. Does yours have water bottle mounts only on the the downtube? That seems to be a distinguishing characteristic for the 1982 models.
I'll look forward to seeing your build.
