WTB: Nice triple crankset, 170-172.5, 110BCD

Looking for a very nice triple crankset for an upcoming project. Shimano Deore or older 600 series, Sugino & SR are all brands with which I have a lot of experience.

Would have looked hard at the SR Apex posted yesterday but got caught sleeping. Have used the Sugino X series cranks in the past & that will be my bailout if I can't find something truly vintage.

Really want something with a 110/74 BCD combo since that will match my chainring inventory. Will be making this into a 50/34/24, so bonus points if it comes with any rings in those sizes.

Whatcha got out there?

Have you looked at the new IRD Defiant cranks? Not vintage, but I think they look pretty good.

It uses their custom triplizer for the middle ring -- 36T by default, but they make a 34T version. It does come with the 24T inner ring you want and a they sell a matching 50T ring, so you might even be able to get that swapped in at the time of sale.

Andy- Yep, am aware of those, but if I go 'new' it'll be with the Sugino X series.
MV- Sorry, should have mentioned am only looking for a polished finish. Got a bench buffer for Christmas so am willing to polish up something not quite shiny enough, but don't want to start with a painted surface.

You're going to love the polishing machine. FWIW, I've learned not to shy away from painted and anodized aluminum. I give it the Easy Off treatment, prep with a Scotch Brite pad and then polish it up with the buffer. I'm doing this with a pair of old tri-color calipers at the moment (I know, sacrilege to many).

I know I have some shimano deore xt and deore 175s but you want a 170-172.5. I'll fish around and see what I have.

Doc, I have a set of somewhat generic Shimano 110/74 170mm arms and a set of NOS rings (have to check the tooth count). The arms might look pretty spiffy once polished. Let me know if you're interested or want to see some pics.

Neal, woild like to see some pics. Shimano = bueno.

Bikemig, 175 is not out of the question, let me know what you're holding.

These will go on a somewhat special 650b bike I'm working on in collaboration with, ahem, another BF'er. With the lower BB on 650's, would prefer a somewhat shorter crank arm.

@rccardr, you might want to ck out boulder bicycle's cranks section. It's mostly triples, all NOS or close to it and some of it's really cheap. Also they have some Sugino XD stuff in the blowouts section.

Doc, here's what I have. Crankset is a Shimano FC-B124, which VeloBase says is a BioPace triple. It will come with chainring bolts but no dust caps.

The NOS rings I show in that last pick are Takagi 50-38-27t. I also have a few various rings around:

74bcd: SR 30t, no name 36t
110bcd: Sugino 36t and 44t, Stronglight 48t (new), Origin8 44t (new)

Let me know wha you think. Email is probably best: lerner.n@gmail.com

Thanks,

Neal

I have this 170 Deore set. Not sure what the BCD is offhand but can verify. The rings aren't what you're looking for but I can take them off.

This is a really pretty crank; it's 110/74 bcd. You can sell those rings apart from the crank; there have to be some biopace fans on BF, .

At this point, I have over-satiated my triplotomy needs.

Many thanks to all- you're the best!
