WTB: Mid-late 80's Schwinn Tempo frame
Hey,
I'd like to buy a mid-late 80's Tempo frame (or similar) with Tenax. I ride a 56/58 so 23" should be just right.
Condition isn't an issue as long as it's straight and rideable.
Thanks!

Just FYI, the Super Sport frames from the same period are pretty much identical with the exception of a different fork crown.
Same great tubing, same great handling, same sizing in a 23"

Looked through the Schwinn catalogs and figured as much. I've seen a couple of really awesome looking Tempo's on here which is why I've gravitated to that frame.
However, it's the Tenax and geo that I'm looking for so I'd definitely be cool with an SS as well. Did Schwinn continue the 21.1 stem size with these frames?
Thanks for the Ebay link Tyler, I'll keep an eye on it.

Link came from tylerfred; I don't typically post links to items on my Watch List.
Stem is standard size, crown race is 27.0, seatpost is 26.6. These bikes are stupid easy to modify and upgrade.
I just wish they had put better quality wheelsets on them, the Maillard/Rigida combo simply sucks.

Oops! Was thinking about replying to your post and Tyler's at the same time and got mixed up with usernames.
Thanks for the dimensions, good to know the stem is normal. That means I can continue with what I've got planned. I've got a lead on a frame so I'll hopefully be going that route anyway. If you were already watching that particular Tempo I won't snipe you on it.

I have an '85 Tempo and absolutely love it. One curveball it threw me was the 120mm spacing in the rear. Fortunately I had a pair of Nuovo Tipo hubs and a Suntour Ultra 6 speed cassette which work perfectly.
I'm guessing later years were 126mm. Worth knowing if you plan to change wheels or cassettes.

Yes, at least by 87 thru 89 they were 126OLD, but easily spread to 130..

You've been watching ebay I assume. There are a few of them that actually sold low. IMO. I've been watching paramount, circuit, tempo, premis and a few other vintage bikes for the better part of this year.

Yeah, that one posted on this thread sold pretty low. I think I'll broaden my search for a few other frames since I'm wanting to get something sooner than later (I'm way impatient).

Don't feel bad about missing the one that sold on eBay last weekend. Seller now clams that the frame is damaged and will not ship.
Could be sellers remorse, could be legit, at any rate it's either been sold elsewhere locally or in the trash.

Probably thought it sold too low.
At any rate it looks like I have a bead on a frame and am just working out details...

Anyway, @Shinkers I don't suppose this is of any interest to you? I want the entire group, I don't need the frame and fork, although it's light as sh&% and I wouldn't mind giving it a go.

Not in the greatest of shape. I'd want to show you a couple of pics around the TT guides, but if condition truly isn't an issue I guess it won't matter?

Man, every time I read stuff like this I get all paranoid about the one time I tore down a frame and actually found steering tube damage and warned the seller. Was a fellow BF'er and the news came after days of work beating me down and forcing me to stall on packing and shipping. To this day I still wonder if they thought I had second thoughts.

Nope, looks like I've got one on the way. Thanks though.

I haven't logged into BF for a loooooooong time, but I just bought a 23" blue and white tempo with all original 105 components. Lmk if still interested. I was going to restore, and make into a fast steel bike. But I've got enough bikes if you want it.

And a great rider as well! Just had too many competing for the same spot. I've also calmed down on my need for speed quite a bit this year. More into relaxed riding and older frames.
I'm sure this bike went to a good home!
