    Vancouver, BC members.

I know there are a couple members here. I am looking to work less on bikes and ride them more this summer. Anyone else here interested in going for 20-100km C&V rides at a friendly no-drops pace?

It is an idea - I live in North Burnaby and sometimes ride with the Vancouver Bicycle Meetup group but of course they are not c&v. Getting close to 60 so I prefer rides on the easier end and I tend to stay indoors during warmer days - like today. Waited until the evening to take a ride down to Stanley Park and it was much nicer. So depending on the lendth and time of the ride I could be persuaded.

Might be interested! Out of town until late June but had been considering working up to something longer than my 7k trips to work. I've never ridden in a group but something low key might be nice. Had thought about doing a fish & chips ride out to Steveston this summer.

Glad to meet you. My ideal ride is something comfortable with a couple cafe and pub stops in between.

On the edge of Vancouver and Burnaby, work an irregular schedule but always up for a good ride when I am not at work.

I'd be down for something as described.

My Sunday ride revealed that my legs are not yet up for much climbing this early in the season, but I'd be very interested.

    Narhay,

I read in another post that you own a Team Marin? Here is mine out around Birch Bay, we need to go out for a ride together, living in Burnaby do you ever ride the Trans Canada Trail out to Port Moody?

II have not ridden the trail to port moody but I would like to. My riding has been relegated mostly to commuting and the seawall.

My 1991 Team Marin is my commuter:

I've also got a 1974 Raleigh Super Course

    1978 Raleigh Superbe

And a somewhat undocumented as yet and still in progress 1972 Peugeot PX-10. Hopefully the last little bits for it will arrive this week.

Just figured I'd bump this up! They're forecasting a sunny dry autumn, but may as well take advantage of summer while it's here.
I've never done any proper group rides and only commute a short 6.5/7k to work and then back again each day so I don't know that I'll have the athleticism to do more than a gentle 30k-ish ride but would anyone be interested in venturing out at the end of the month? Say the 30th of August (a Sunday)?

I think a "gentle 30k-ish ride" on or around the 30th of August could certainly hit the spot.

My preference would be for a route in/around Vancouver proper (I'm in East Van), Burnaby, possibly North Richmond.

    Others?

I would be up for a spin on the 30th. My rides are usually quite a bit longer however I get the idea is to connect with other local like minded bike enthusiast and not a work out. All we really need is a meet up location, possible destination, some decent weather and were good. I am on the edge of Burnaby also but happy to meet up anywhere in the lower mainland.

Seems like they're forecasting for substantial rain this weekend. (Which I'm sure the trees will be happy to have) Not that I'm shy to ride in a bit of the wet stuff (I certainly brave it enough through winter commuting) but might be a bit flood-like given how dry the soil is. Even if just three of us go out, might still be fun to do a C&V ride on less of a drippy day. Supposed to be a dry/sunny September so perhaps we can push this to Sunday Sept the 13th instead if there's still the interest? Maybe more people will join? (I can always post a separate thread).

Some ideas in terms of routes - if people are up for a bit of gravel and for heading south, I did the West **** Trail in Richmond recently. Didn't ride all the way out there from Vancouver but I'd be game to try. Could do something like meet at Tandem Bike Cafe on Heather & 15th and ride to Richmond via Heather - Ontario St to the Cambie/Canada Line Pedestrian-Bike Bridge, west to the West **** Trail to Steveston Village for nourishment and then back along the paved Railway Ave. Should be about 30k to get back to Aberdeen Stn for anyone wanting to bail and throw a bike on the skytrain instead, or others could push on and ride home again for a longer distance. (for some photos of my ride on the West D. Trail recently, see - Where'd You Ride Today? (New & Improved) )

Alternately could do something like meet up around Rupert Skytrain near Boundary and take the Central Valley Greenway to Science World, then along West 1st, Charleson / Lamey Mill Rd and onward to connect to the Point Grey bike route and Jericho beach and then up the hill to UBC for refreshments and back again via 8th?

Unless you guys are doing the Gran Fondo the day before - then a break on the 13th might be in order.

West d-y-k-e trail could be a great choice...and I agree that a dry September day (such as, hopefully, the 13th) might be more enjoyable than this Saturday, currently predicting 30mm rain and a bit of wind.

Your proposed meeting place and route for that option would be good for me. 20 mins on the bike to the Tandem Bike Café from my place, and should be a pretty chill ride down from there.

The other route would be a nice spin, too, though more my regular stomping grounds...whereas I've never done that trail down in Richmond/Steveston.

How's the gravel on the trail? Looks well-groomed from your pics, but thinking this might be something I ought to consider in picking a bike for the ride...

I'm away until the 20th of September but I'd be up to meet up sometime after that.

I seem to have missed the latest updates - anyone thinking of this long weekend - say Saturday the 5 th, or is the 13 th looking more promising? Another route I take sometimes are side streets through Coquitlam to Munday Park and either around Munday Park or down along the West side and South to Colony Farm near Riverview and either towards the Pitt River Bridge and the dike trail via the S.E. corner of Colony near the Mary Hill Bypass or North up along the Coquitlam River trail. Of course, most of these places get a bit busy on nice weekends but still another option. So far it looks like five of us, I guess we cannot expect too many C&V cyclists up here. I sometime go with the Vancouver Bicycle Meetup group but being pretty well made up of modern hybrids I tend to stand out with any of my vintage bikes I ride. There is even I good sized group that ride Stanley Park in their American balloon tired Schwinns etc. but not quite what I am into. Anyway, guess I will wait and see.
